Shannon, make sure you get that checked out if it gets worse. Take care of it so it doesn't get bad.

    3 miles at lunch time.

Last nights workout (2 x 2400) ended up being about 7.35 minute/mile pace for the first and about 8.07 minute/mile for the second. The legs just didn't have it. :ohwell:

Tae kwon do tonight on the way home.

    Be safe all.

SOON IT'LL BE TRACK & FIELD IN THE OLYMPICS!!!!! :drinker:

    Morning Runners!

    Everyone is doing so great.

I don't want to talk about my left leg, shin, ankle, knee. :grumble:  It seems like the second I feel confident with my jogging, my legs laugh at me and get all messed up and hurt. Sucks. :grumble:

    Good morning!!
Jess, welcome to the group! As you can read, we are a bunch of proud runners. Whether we are just beginning or are veterans, we keep each other motivated! Also, congratulations your 70lbs weight loss!! That is awesome!!!
    :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:
Thank you! I have 2 good friends that I train with, it makes the 4:30AM wake up call much easier when you have someone to meet! We have trained for 2 half marathons, one full, and this year we got into triathlons. Are you training for a half or full? Be careful w/ the knee pain, I've had and IT band injury and it is NO fun. Do you have a foam roller? That really helped me a lot!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome! I love talking running, racing, and anything fitness related really! LOL

    Jess

That's awesome! Starting September, I will be getting up 3 times a week at 4:30am to run with a friend at the gym. Although it will be hard to wake up that early (I get up at 5:30am to run now), I'm really excited!
I'm training for a 1/2 marathon in Sept (scotiabank in Toronto). I haven't officially signed up yet. I want to see how my 10miles goes this weekend. I have until the end of Aug before the prices go up again. lol

Good for you! Training w/ friends is awesome! It is hard some mornings to get up early, but once I'm out of bed I'm good to go. I just don't let myself hit snooze... LOL

G/L w/ the HM! If you can run 10 miles, you can do it. 10 miles was my longest training run before my first HM.

Jess- Welcome, your story is very motivating...one questions, what will a foam roller do for your knee? I have a little knee pain in my right knee, started after a foot injury. anyway just curious.

I had another great mini run, 30 minutes of intervals which calculated 2.6 miles...I felt like I was going to throw up when I got done but I felt great! :embarassed:

I had a severe case of IT band strain after my marathon and the foam roller is awesome for helping w/ tendonitis. I use it to roll out my legs, calves, and even roll on my back and other muscles. It feels like a deep massage. It hurt like heck at first, I remember almost crying, but it really did help me recover. Now I'm a HUGE fan of it and stretching well after every run. Good job on the run!

I don't know what type of problems you're having, but wearing the wrong type of shoe can really attribute to leg/ foot/ knee issues. Have you been fitted for the right running shoe? Are you running every day or taking a break? I find that usually I only run every other day, it keeps the injuries away!

That's what I thought about the 10 miles. I figure if I can do 10, I can do 3 more. Not sure if that makes sense but that's my logic right now. lol
I'm going to look into the foam roller. Where could I purchase something like that? I'm going to look it up on-line and get more info. Thanks!

Hello runners... I plan to run today at lunch or either tonight when I get home. My legs are still so sore from the 4 miles I did two days ago. I will probably run 3 today for time. I have to get it in under 31 minutes according to the Marines... I've never had trouble with it, usually do it in a bout 29 minutes or so... with all of your RUNNERS out there, is there anything I can do to shorten my run time???? I can run ALL DAY at my own pace, but when you put a time on it, I'm never really as great as I want to be... I just had my first baby 8 months ago, so that slowed me down a little bit at first, but my pace has gotten a lot better! So if you guys have any information that would be nice!!!

Good luck with everyone today!!! Have a blessed one!!

Do you run solo or with a friend? You could find a friend that runs faster to run with. Or try doing some intervals (go as fast as you can for 1-2 min, then do a 1-2 min slower recovery run). From what I've been told, the only way to *get* faster is to *run* faster! HTH!

Yep, you can totally do it. I LOVE the HM distance, I was going to do one this fall, but there just isn't one around here close enough that I can do. I got mine at performbetter.com (I can't remember if we are allowed to post links here?). It's a 6" round, 3' long one. It came w/ an instructional manual also. I went to Physical therapy for my IT band and they used it for PT so I bought one to use at home! And my kids think it's an awesome toy. LOL

    Hello everybody!

Shannon, I'm sorry you hurt your foot. Hope it gets better soon!

Jessemom3: Welcome to the group. It's the best in MFP! (a little biased:tongue: )

Tricia: You are getting incredibly fast! I'm so impressed. I think you run as fast (maybe faster) than my husband, and I think of him as pretty fast.

Today I got up at 5:30 to run (thought of you Mireille--wow how do you do this all the time?) I had the choice to either run outside before work, or on the treadmill at the crowded gym after work. I chose before work, and now I'm happy because it's almost 100 degrees outside and I don't have to run 6 miles on the treadmill!

I had to go by myself because my husband left to take our dogs across the state to our family's ranch to board them while we go to Jamaica. We leave on Sunday and I'm really excited. :drinker: :glasses:

    Hi runner friends.

Let me just tell you how much of an inspiration you all are to me -- I just signed up for the Philadelphia half marathon in November! I'm really excited about it. I know no one else that is participating - I am totally and completely doing this for me. Forgive me - but I'm going to toot my own horn here for a second - but I just feel so proud knowing that less than a year ago I was sad and unmotivated, weighing in at 180 lbs. Now I'm almost 50 lbs lighter and doing a stinking 1/2 marathon! If I can do this - anybody can! Really!

My workout today was 5.5 miles of speedwork. I did this:

    1 mile warm-up
    5 x 800 at 3:45 with 400 jogs in between
    1 mile cool-down

Thanks for responding to my question about shoulder pain. Today I really stretched my shoulders and completely concentrated on trying not to tense up while running. I have such a tendency to tighten up, especially when I'm trying to run faster than my normal pace. I have so much work to do on my form. Any suggestions?

Wow! this is the longest thread I've seen for us! I did pilates today. It felt great. I am hoping (as soon as the kids go back to school) to do this on my cross training days for flexibility and core strength. It is supposed to help prevent injury. I met a woman at my training group who coaches a "running for women" running group. It is done in intervals. She invited me to join in the Fall. My club ends labor day so I am considering it. It is very regimented - run 5 min / walk 1 min etc.
    Anyone else train like that?

Second the interval training -- add some intervals and try gentle pushes where you bump up your speed and slow it down (not as aggressive as intervals). Short spurts of fast-pace running will help you out.

I did a spin class (haven't done one in a while) and it was a lot of fun!!

I was asking others if they did this -- Jeff Galloway does this type of training regimen. I hear it is really good for those adding miles without injury. Two of my friends have used this technique to prep for marathons... Good Luck!

Are you pushing yourself too hard, too fast, too soon??
  • Wow, so many postings, and not enough time to read. I am sorry to miss everyone today.
I didn't run today, tried to get a little extra rest, then when I woke up I was uncordinated for a little while. It was like I really over slept, even though it was still less than 8 hours. I guess I am getting use to getting up before the sun any more.
I am heading out to visit mom in hospital tomorrow, not sure what is going on with her, but I am going to get in a good run before I go.
She is in Las Vegas because her town doesn't have a real hospital and even though I am going to visit her, I am pretty sure I will be doing some running around, and maybe some jumping up and down or maybe working out my arms with some dice.
When I would go to state line a few times before and say I was at a good table and didn't want to leave, I would ask the waitress to put a few extra cherries in my diet drink. You know she would put like 5 in it for me. Just thought was funny.
Anyway, maybe if I get on a good streak, I wont think about eating and get a good workout running around.
I will try to check in before I go.
    SM
