Can someone please define "clean eating" ? What can you eat? What can't you eat? Benefits? Disadvantages? What about eating out?

everyone pretty much has a different definition but generally it is eating fresh, wholesome foods while AVOIDING processed foods that come in packages. We make just about everything at home and one of the most processed foods we eat is probably canned beans or canned tomatoes (no salt added). Also, store bought all natural breads without preservatives and packaged pastas (if and when we eat them.
Clean eating is pretty much eating as close to the source as possible and not taking in preservative filled foods loaded with chemicals.
:-D Nutrients for the body without chemical loaded packaged food......
That help?
I guess the disadvantage would be that it is more time consuming to make EVERYTHING from scratch- BUT SOOOO WORTH IT!!!!! :-D Advantages are--- more NUTRIENTS and less crud
As for eating out- it is limited or chosen wisely in what is ordered, avoiding high sodium dishes and high fat/fried dishes. Around here there are a lot of fresh, natural and organic restaurants with AMAZING foods. Nobody is perfect so... I enjoy a YUMMY meal out now and then I just learn what I am eating before I order.0 -
My husband and I eat realtively clean. The best way to explain it is, you don't eat processed foods. There are lots of books out there about it. One that I'm reading right now is The Complete Idiot's Guide to Clean Eating. There is a diet out there, the Eat-Clean Diet. One of the best snacks we've found is peanut butter banana wraps. They are really good, and filling. There is a section in the eat clean diet books about eating out, basically you would do like grilled chicken rather than the breaded chicken. Hope this info helps! :happy:0

Dangit!!! I thought it meant you just had to wash your food before eating it. I've been doing this all wrong! :sad:0 -
to add to the Eat-clean diet comment above. The woman who wrote the book Eat-Clean diet as a WONDERFUL cook book titled just that! DELICIOUS recipes and all pretty simple and DELISH! :-D0

"if it didn't have a mother or grow out of the ground, don't eat it!". Basically you cut out all the man-made, chemical, processed stuff (which unfortunately is a lot of what's in the grocery store) and stick to whole foods like fruits, veggies, nuts, beans, whole grains (like quinoa or brown rice), and lean meats. You can cut out dairy if you want, but you don't have to.
My typical clean eating day:
unprocessed yogurt with granola and strawberries OR steel-cut oats with cinnamon and bananas
banana for mid-morning snack
turkey, poached egg, carrots + hummus, half an avocado for lunch
rice cake with almond butter for afternoon snack
dinner is usually a meat (pork, chicken or ground turkey), a veggie (steamed broccoli, asparagus, etc.) and a whole grain (couscous, risotto, quinoa)
piece of dark chocolate for dessert, and maybe a glass of red wine (you're supposed to avoid alcohol when eating clean but I let it sneak in here and there)0 -

"If it comes from the earth or had a mother you CAN eat it." :-D One of my fave JM quotes... along with the one in my signature.0 -
