Lean Body Weight

When my trainer does my body fat measurements and calculations, she has my lean body mass at about 145 lbs at this point. I am 5'10". I imagine as my body fat continues to go down, this number will continue to go up . . .does that mean that my goal weight should be greater than my lean body weight value? If I lose weight beyond my lean body weight then I will be losing muscles as well, correct? It went down for the first time since I started this journey during my last check in, but she said that is because I have been losing and have been in a calorie deficit. Overall since last Aug I have increased it from 123 to 145. Basically, my goal weight should be higher than whatever my lean body weight is, correct?

Thats correct. I weigh 140lbs my lean body weight is 118. If I want to get to 118 I have to lose muscle, tissue from organs etc. Not good.
PS keep in mind any time you lose a good amount of weight you will always lose some muscle.0 -
Yes...your lean mass is made up of your bones, muscles, blood vessels, organs...everything that is healthy active tissue and NOT fat.
Your goal weight would be somewhere in the healthy range for women (recommended body fat %age), which is between 18% and 26% Body fat.
So if you assume 145lbs of lean mass is 82% of your weight, (leaving 18% body fat), your goal weight would be 176.83 lbs
Similarly, if you assume your 145 lbs of Lean mass is 74% of your weight (26% Fat), your goal weight would be 195.95 lbs
Sicne you're 5'10 with a good %age of lean mass....this range is fine for you.
Forget about the scale and go with your composition. :-)0 -
Thank you so much for putting it in a range Egger . . .I guess math isn't my strong suit! It is sometimes a bit discouraging for a taller gal like me to look at my actual numbers on the scale, but I am already feeling so great at 29% body fat, (down from 45% when I started) and I am just trying to get some goal numbers down and this is very helpful. It is funny to think that if I were 18% body fat with my current muscle mass, I would still be *Overweight* by the commonly accepted height/weight charts.0

I am right there with you...I have 145lbs of lean body weight and 105 pounds of fat. I'm also 5'5.....what I don't understand is I have been 160 before and was still fat...I've been 180 before and was still fat. It's hard to believe I need to shoot for 180 and not 145 like I originally thought. I need to get away from my number obsession. If I can look amazing at 180 then so be it! I just want to look good and be healthy as well!0
