Are these a healthy meal? Im having trouble finding conclusive nutritional info. I figure the meat is roasted and lamb i believe, the tzatziki is greek yogurt based so it seems ok, it made with a pita, and then some tomatoes thrown in.

Seems like a healthy lunch item. Am i missing something?

I guess it would be better to get it served on salad rather than pita.

Probably a little high in cals. And carbs and fat.
I guess it depends on the quality of the meat, and the pita bread.

I wouldn't say its bad for you, I'd just try to figure out where it puts you with your daily goals.

Probably not the best food choice as they're quite high in fat & the meat generally isn't lean. It's not something I would include regularly in my food plan.

hmmm perhaps switching out the traditional lamb for chicken and having on salad rather than pita is the way to go....or just find another lunch option haha

I wouldn't suggest. All the Gyros I've had thought VERY DELICIOUS!! Are very fatty and you can really make a better choice. Maybe once in a great while splurge.

is a Gyro the same as a Donair?

i'm guessing the meat is really high in fat. and i bet the sodium is thru the roof for those people that care about that.

not sure what a donair is, but your description sounds right lol
  • Greek salad with gyro meat...actually a pretty good choice. Just ask to hold the dressing - a little feta and meat goes a long way for flavor

It is high in fat (20g per 5 oz) and sodium (500mg) but I never go over on those things so it's never a problem for me. I like to grab a half one every now and then and have the tzatziki on the side. Soooo good! I've made them at home with hamburger meat so that's a leaner option if you're willing to put forth the effort.

I like this idea. Do you have a healthy tzatziki recipe?

It is the same except gyros are not served with Donair sauce- meat is the same. It is made with very fatty meat so definitely not an every day meal.

Probably an ok midday meal (which is the one I usually aim to have the most cals). I get something similar at Pita Pit and they can be 500-800 Cal depending on what you put in them. I usually just ask for everything on the fillings (I'm not a picky eater). Most of the calories are coming from the cheese, meat, pineapples, and sauce. So pick a lean meat, skip the cheese and pineapples, and maybe ask them to go light on the sauce. Personally though, I would just save a food option like that for a day when I have extra calories to eat.
