I always get confused about serving size.. on here it says that

Chicken - Breast, meat only, cooked, fried, 0.5 breast, bone and skin removed = 161cals

Then it says:

Chicken - Breast, meat only, cooked, fried, 1 unit (yield from 1 lb ready-to-cook chicken) = 97cals

I don't understand what they are saying! Am I making this more complicated than it is? I buy packs of chicken that have 2 butterfly breasts in it with no skin and no bone. I only eat one of these breasts. How do i record it? I pan fry them with no butter or oil ever. The package says for both its 0.280kgs

The second one at least references size, which can help you compare to the size that you are buying. You have to remember, this database is full of all of us putting our foods in, and from what I have noticed, some of us are more detail oriented then others. So I always compare several, and look to see how many member confirmations an entry has as well.

Not sure if this answered your question or not!!

I use the first one myself. My note book says "Chicken Breast, 1/2 - no bone 193 cals" I think that is from a calorie count book I have at home, or calorie count.com So really, that is what I use. That would be what we normally call 1 chicken breast, but is really 1/2 of both sides. Hope that helps - serving size can be very confusing sometimes!

i noticed that alot of the foods in the data base have a note saying they were member added and the values were not confirmed, that may be where the diffrence is coming in. If i am not sure i have been adding it in according to what is on the package. :flowerforyou:

Theres no info on the package. The chicken weighs about 0.6 of a pound. I added that into the second option.. but it says the cals are like at 92.. that seems really low.. That there confuses me too haha

Usually a 4 oz chicken breast, with no skin or bone, is around 120 calories. If that helps

The only reason I ask is because 1. I LOVE chicken and 2. It seems to varey a lot. In one portion its like 100cals, the other portion its about 250!!

My food scale is my new best friend. I bought it for about $20, and it's amazing. I found out that my "eyeballed" portion of meat was almost always too big, but (hooray!) my cheese portions were too small.

So, in short. . .I know how much meat I'm eating and I get to eat more cheese.

    Hooray! cheese!:flowerforyou:

i am having chicken tonight too, boneless skinless kind you buy in a big bag at winco. Says 110 cals for 4 oz portion and that there are ten servings per bag well there are only six breasts in the bag so I figured average each serving would then be .6 of a breast. Hopefully that helps. I am eating just over half of the chicken breast and my son is eating the .4 that is leftover and I rang it up for 110 cals.

There's no better investment than a small kitchen scale. I've seen chicken breast range from 4oz-10oz.

I am not sure how accurate they all are but when I go to goodwill or value villiage they always have like ten kitchen scales lol. Maybe I will bring a pack of fruit snacks or something and test them out then buy one.
