How Political Correctness Negatively Affects Us. :-D

I was reading a study/article from the US govt circa 2005 (I think?) about how much exercise we should be getting. They claimed that everyone should be getting a bare minimum of 30 minutes every day. EVERY day. On top of that, people that were successful at going from obese to "normal" should be getting upwards of 90 minutes a day. Yes, you read that correctly - these people are no longer obese and should be getting three times as much exercise because apparently being obese at one point in time beat their metabolism up *so* much that it's three times slower than people that have never had weight issues.

Then further in the article they go back to say "Start out at 30, but if you start to gain - up the length of activity." (Ok, I shouldn't have put that in quotes because I'm paraphrasing)

I've done a LOT of reading on metabolism as I'm sure the rest of you have. There are only a few rare diseases that affect metabolism enough to be noticeable. Even then, they don't slow it THAT much! THIS is what political correctness does. Why don't they just flat out say, "Look. Your whole life you have been sedentary. If you think 30 minutes of standing at the kitchen counter slicing carrots for dinner is exercise, think again!" Or, "We understand that a lot of successful weight loss citizens got there because of surgery and a lot of those people had health conditions that make it hard to work up a sweat. You can't jog or do jumping jacks so you need to walk your little fluffy dog for an hour instead of 25 minutes." Or, "The traditional Sunday dinner that has been passed down in your family for decades packs a whopping 800 calories a serving. Doing dishes after dinner isn't enough. You may want to wash the walls and vacuum, too."

This stuff gets to me. Just be *honest* and stop wasting people's time. :-/
