So I ordered a used copy of P90X and will be starting when it arrives. I'm not quite sure what accessories I'll need. And, I'm not sure there's really a good place to put a pull-up bar that's within sight of the TV. My door cases are all those wide 1920s style ones. Tips?

You can use resistance bands instead of a pull-up bar.

I bought the perfect pullup because my doorways are thick and I don't have trim on the top of my doors.

you can you resistance bands with a door attachment in place of the pull-up bar. what helped me was having a low weight, medium weight and high weight. ex: 5,8,10.

    good luck and BRING IT!

We use resistance bands...just make sure you have an attachment that you can use on the door. We have a door gym...but in the new place we are in...we don't trust it. They will show modifications for resistance bands. That is the most inexpensive route if you don't want to buy all the stuff. However, I do recommend a recovery drink.

Resistance bands are about as good as the pull up bar and probably a better place to start. Yoga blocks are very very helpful as well, especially if your not flexible. You will rock this ...I know it. If you want any luv and support feel free to msg me ... or friend me... Im on week 6 right now!
  • Thanks! I'll have to hit our local sporting goods store for some 8 and 10 pound weights. I have resistance bands, but will need the door attachment. I may look at yoga blocks, depending on cost because I'm so not flexible. :)
  • I use a resistance band for the pullups. I tie a knot in the middle and then open the door, put the knot on one side, closing the door on it and it stays in place with no problem. I started with the red band (easy) and am now on the purple band (harder). I like that they always show how to use the bands as an option.

I owned weights beforehand so I just needed to buy a, padded mat (my yoga mat was not thick enough), and a yoga block.

    Best of luck!

Depending on how wide your doors are, you might be able to use the Creative Fitness door mounted pullup bar with the optional extension bars. I travel 5 1/2 days out of 7 and do all of my pullup work out of the hotel and the hotel bathroom door is wider than standard width and the Creative Fitness door attachment worked well.

Must haves: Yoga mat, yoga block (if you are not flexible), good cross trainers (for plyo), bands or weights. For the fly moves and some of the Chest Shoulder Triceps moves, I highly recommend lighter weights like 3s and 5s. Anything above 10s will be according to your strength level.

Nice to haves: Pull up bar for the door or a free standing power tower (I have both), select weights (expensive), HRM, thicker mat for Plyo, and push up stands.

Extras (for when you are REALLY BRINGING IT!): Weighted vest, weighted gloves

I also recommend a plan for a recovery drink, whether it is BeachBody's version or a whey protein powder from GNC or MetRx...something to ease your muscle repair and recovery to avoid too much muscle soreness. Makes a WORLD of difference in your workout week!!

Good luck...feel free to friend me. I am on Phase 3 of Lean, second week. Start a Classic round on June 6th...
  • Thanks! I can pick up GMC's whey protein powder. Good to know it's not just some marketing scam designed to make you spend more.

Can I ask...did anyone see really dramatic results? The after pix from the infomercials all look great, but it seems like a lot of the people weren't all that overweight to begin with...mostly just in the 15-20 lbs. overweight category and not toned.
