The diet bubble

After reading through a post I realized there was a sub debate going on. As we diet, we forget others don’t. We are in a bubble and often take control of cooking in our houses to enable us to make things as healthy as possible, but what happens we venture out of the bubble?
Do we impose our lifestyles on others? Do we decline a host’s food based on our lifestyle choices and are we coming across as rude or inconsiderate as a result? I frequently have to eat the most healthy unhealthy thing so I can enjoy time with family and friends. While they attempt to accommodate me, I can not go into someone else’s house expecting to stay on diet anywhere near my standards.
I am curious how others have handled the challenge of venturing outside the bubble and not be imposing our lifestyle and choices on friends and family that open their kitchens, hearts and homes to us

I will usually plan my food and exercise around an event/get together. I have a large portion of what is healthy and a smaller portion of what isn't. You still have to live life and enjoy. Come back to my favorite word, balance.0

Without being rude I would try to find out what was on the menu and if it was something I knew wouldn't fit into my healthy lifestyle, I would offer to bring a salad, fruit salad or other side dish that I knew I could have a bigger portion of and use a lot of "portion" control on the foods my host served...:flowerforyou:0

Welp, I don't impose my lifestyle on others, I just refuse to eat something that will ruin all of my hard work. If they are my family & friends that truly love me, they will empathize & understand what it took to get where I am today, and what I have to do in order to maintain it. If they can't, then they hatin'
Also, I always come prepared by bringing healthy meal replacements or contribute 'friendly' foods.0 -
As I see it there isn't much to do.
Either you can A) go with the flow and possibly blow your diet for a night and as long as it's not a weekly/nightly thing and just a once in a while holiday thing it would be fine.
attempt to eat as healthy as you can and only picking out the healthier options but still realizing that you might end up going over your daily limits
C) Eat at home that way when you go to their house you eat less of the unhealthy foods.
What I tend to do is once and a while me and my friends have a get together, kind of a holiday thing and I just allow myself to have what I want. Unfortunately when you do that sometimes the tummy can reject the unhealthy foods and you end up not feeling good the rest of the night and just jump back on the wagon the next day. I do try when there is a "bring a dish"option to make something healthy without them knowing it's really healthy for them. Most people get this image of "healthy" foods and something that doesn't taste good and I've been proving them wrong otherwise. I don't think it's wise to force someone to cater to your ways. I say you have to roll with the punches and sometimes you just have a junk day or you do the best you can.0
