It's all so confusing!

I'm getting so confused reading all these different opinions and articles on things like when to exercise in the day, what to eat before and after exercise, whether to just do weights and nO cardio, whether to eat exercise calories etc etc... The closer I get to my ultimate goal the more i want to do things correctly but it's hard to figure out what that is!!

I'm thinking of doing a masters in health and fitness...!

    Ditto. I am feeling so overwhelmed by it all and who to believe that I need to step back, re-evaluate and try to keep things basic for now.
  • I would say whatever you have been doing- keep doing it! You've lost a great amount of weight! So whatever it is, it's working for you!
    When to work out, what to eat, eating exercise calories etc etc., I think all of that is all matter of preference.

    I've heard weight training is really good...but again it is all in preference

    I say do what works for you! There is no size fits all when it comes to weight loss and healthy lifestyle changes. What I do, could be detrimental to another person's weight loss. If you're seeing results on a regular basis, keep at your original approach! :)

    Do what works for you - and supports your goals - no point following a routine that says do xyz if in doing that it doesnt work for you. I found out the hard way - through experimenting that I need to maintain a high protein level in my diet to keep the weight loss going - if I remained on my cals but eat a higher %age of carbs I get hungry feel like I want to snack - so I have gone back to protein - but that is just what works for me.

    Stick with what works for you ! and you have had some amazing results !

    There is no right or wrong way. If our bodies were simple programmable machines then yes, you could try different routines and see which was most efficient. But we humans are a wee bit more complicated.

    It doesn't matter if you do cardio before weights or the other way round - as long as you do them.
    If you find that eating a bit more when you exercise works for you - great, keep doing it!
    If you want to hit the gym first thing on the morning on an empty stomach - and your body lets you know its OK with that - then go right ahead.

    Whatever you've been doing seems to be working for your body - congratulations!

    I guess so. Good advice from everyone.

    I think I just panic cos weight loss slows as you get nearer to your goal weight and I want to make sure I avoid it as much as I can. Also because I am a bit of a novice when it comes to health and fitness, I feel like I am still learning so much about how to do thing's correctly. Just amazed at all the different opinions out there.

    Congratulations! You have lost 53;bs, you must be doing something right.

    As for the time of working out, they say there is an optimal time, but it's only optimal if you do it. If it doesn't fit into your schedule it isn't optimal to you. Don't worry about the time of day. The other thing about what to eat and when, it really only matters if you are going to be working out longer than an hour. If you are working out longer than an hour have a carb snack before and a protien after. ( it won't kill you if you have a carb with a protien together so dont' stress too much.)

    As for the cardio, weight combo, you should be doing both. Weight training you only should do every other day, unless you are working different sections of the body, ie. upper body one day and lower body the next day.

    Everyone has given you good advice. You've been losing weight doing what you are doing......and yes, it may slow as you get closer to your goal, and you may want to mix things up a bit, but "Keep on, keepin' on."
    People ask me what I did to lose weight, and then they want to see the food diary I kept at the time, and then they say, "You didn't eat a whole lot less than I do." Well, whatever.......that is what worked for me.....it might not work for the next person down the road.
