I'm finding that my cup of coffee in the morning (which I've had throughout my life) may be the reason why I don't desire breakfast and really have to "make" myself eat it. I think the coffee supresses my appetite. Anyone else?

Coffee's never worked as an appetite suppressant for me. I have friends who depend on coffee, both for appetite suppressant and the energy food would have given them, but I'm a huge "coffee and ___" consumer.... (today coffee and a banana. In my previous life, coffee and a scone)

I think you're right. But not because it supresses, because it makes your tummy feel full. They say to have soup before a meal and you'll eat less at the meal for the same reason. Warm, filling.

I'm not a coffee drinker, but the same thing happens for me if I have hot tea in the mornings. I don't feel like eating for the rest of the morning and have to almost force breakfast down!

Yes, caffeine is an appetite suppressant, that's why it's in diet pills. There are a number of reasons why you should cut out your coffee, but the biggest one is that your body simply doesn't need the caffeine. There is no reason you "need" it to get your day started. I'm not a morning person, never have been, but when I get enough sleep I can wake up to be at the gym at 6am. No coffee and I'm wide awake. It may be difficult at first, but your body will adjust.

Well i have coffee every morning too but when i add a green sour apple to that mix i become extremely hungry.
  • I've noticed this, too. If I have a morning cup of coffee first thing, I'm not hungry right away. I used to eat first thing and now delay eating an hour or so

Coffee in the morning suppresses my apetite as well. That's not the reason I drink it though.

It suppresses for a short time for me, then has the opposite effect. It makes me shaky and gets my blood sugar out of whack to where I feel like I have to eat. I do regular in the a.m. then switch to decaf if I have more later. btw, you need to make yourself eat breakfast to get your metabolism going for the day!
