edited September 26 in Introduce Yourself
I was speaking with a friend of mine this morning, and we were discussing MFP. She actually introduced me to the site in February of 2010 and I've been on here since that time. During my weight loss journey I have encouraged many friends and family members some of whom have joined the MFP community and have made their own personal strides towards achieving their fitness and weight loss goals. Anyway that isn't why I'm writing this here, I'm writing to say my friend actually told me that I should not be so unwilling to add friends on the MFP community because my story could inspire someone and vice versa. I had been declining 99.9 percent of all friends invites on MFP because my journey I felt was private and I wasn't sure if allowing others inside of some of my journey would help me; so I would normally just decline friends request on MFP unless they were from people I already know. I was totally using the site as a tool for myself to get where I have to go and not as a supportive community. Although I can't promise being totally open to having hundreds of friends I will try to be more open to adding others.

In general, more friends = more support!

Feel free to add me if you'd like.

It's a wonderful place, but I can understand your apprehension. I don't think my wife would ever get into a site like this. She is a much more private person. However, it is true that the support you get here is invaluable.

And - for the most part - they are people you are not likely to ever meet face-to-face, yet share in your struggles and victories. I saw it as a win-win, and so I jumped into the community a few days after joining in mid-February (probably around the same time as you). It has been an incredible encouragement.

The one thing I would say is that the community is SO large, that you can be pretty picky about who you let into your journey. Find people who you feel you really connect with on one or more levels. This is a must for me ... not just adding people for the sake of having extra friends.

Thanks for your comments; I appreciate the feedback and I will take your advice. The key for me has been entering the food in daily, exercising and being active throughout the day.
