Fast Food

I need some suggestions! I eat fast food at least 2 times a day. (usually lunch and dinner) I go to the gym regularly. Sometimes I will be there for hours then go eat fast food! It is really an addiction. I have tried eating something healthy at home but my body is not satisfied and I stay hungry even after I eat. It is like my body needs the fat and sugar in the fast food to feel full. Is there anything I can eat that may be somewhere in the middle to wean myself off of fast food and on to healthy food?

If you like Taco Bell, there's chicken soft tacos, fresco style. Only 150 calories a pop and very good. If that's still not enough, toss on a pintos and cheese for 170 calories and 8 grams of fiber.0

eating at home try adding healthy fats like avacado to your sandwiches. eat more protein based foods for lunch/dinner. these will help you stay full longer.0

I'm glad that someone else admits to eating a lot of fast food!
What types of things do you usually eat?
I'm vegetarian and still survive on a lot of fast food. Over the years I've learned to make small changes that cut some calories.
Burger King has veggie burgers, I add pickle, mustard, and onions to them and eliminate the mayo usually.
When I take my kids to McDonald's, I'll get a cheeseburger, but get a slice of tomato in place of the meat. We share a fry if and when we do buy them.
Adding sauces that have a lot of flavor, like BBQ instead of mayo/dressing can help. I remember my husband used BBQ sauce on his salad at Denny's once when we were doing WW.
I know when I tried WW, I would eat at Wendy's and have a side salad, a Jr. cheese deluxe minus the meat and mayo, and 1/2 of a baked potato w/ the light sour cream.
Many places have a whole wheat bun or can use a smaller roll if you request it. I also throw away at least 1/2 of the bread as I eat a sandwich.
Do you eat at Subway? It can be filling without being fatty if you skip the oil and mayo. The sweet onion sauce has some flavor.
Good luck cleaning up your fast food diet! I'm struggling right along with you. I am not a fan of cooking!0 -
I feel ya. I don't eat it much anymore, but there have been times where I just get into the habit, and once you get going...
Now if I do have fast food I have it with no mayo or mayo-based sauces, and no cheese unless it's cheddar or swiss (no american). I don't care much for bread, so I can usually get by with no bun or half a bun.
McDonalds has a Grilled Chicken Southwest Salad, and it is SOOOOO good (and I am not a salad person)! Only 420 calories with the dressing (which sometimes I only use half if I want to really cut down).0 -
When you eat "healthy" what are you eating?
This is just me, but I find that when I try to eat typical healthy foods (salads, carrot sticks, fruit, i.e. rabbit food) I am not satisfied either. So I had to learn a handful of recipes and learn about a variety of foods that would not only be healthy but would also fill me up, leaving me satisfied.
Making foods that incorporate nutritious foods such as beans, greek yogurt, lean cuts of meat as well as learning how to properly season foods with paprika, cummin and cayanne can make all of the difference in the world.
I eat fast food maybe once/week and when I do I enjoy it with no apologies. I refuse to be "that guy" sitting at the table re-engineering my food, dabbing my pizza or cutting a hamburger bun in half. LOL!
ETA:
My last paragraph was meant strictly as levity, not as a pot-shot at any of the above posters.0 -
Remember "Healthy food" is not just high fiber low calorie veggies! Lean proteins need to be a mainstay. Having enough lean protein and reasonable fat consumption goes a longggggggg way to controlling hunger.
Good luck!0 -
Two times a day is a bit much.
You need to get yourself off that. I am not going to be a clean food freak or anything, but if you say you are addicted, then you need to treat it like an addiction and go cold turkey. You need to set a time that you will go without for. then stick to it. The fast food company's know what they are doing. There are sugars and salts and fats that make you crave more.
I did the same thing when I wanted to stop using sugar in my coffee. I went cold turkey for 2 weeks and figured it I was desperate enough I would drink it without sugar and it worked.
Best wishes to you, Don't shoot the messenger, you asked.0 -
Thanks everyone!
Mostly my go-to food is burgers. I have been on a whopper jr kick for a few weeks now.
wewon - When I eat "healthy" it is veggies and salads because I feel that is what I should be eating with working out to make my weight loss goal.0
