Does anyone have any suggestions as to what time of day is best for your workout?? I've always done it by afternoon, but am thinking it would be much easier to work out once my son goes to bed at night. Does anyone know if when you do it actually has any effect on the calories you burn or your metabolism??

I have heard it doesn't matter, but I have also heard they say in the morning on an empty stomach...which I could not do. I go to the gym when my son goes to preschool or on the days he doesn't I still try and go mid-morning. I will be interested to see others responses.0

I don't know for sure if it matters what time but I personally always work out the evening after my son goes to bed. It's just easier that way for me. I wouldn't recommend working out on an empty stomach because your body always needs fuel. A lot of people on this site say that you should have a small snack before and/or afterwards.0

I'm a big believer in what Bob says - When is the best time? Whenever you can do it. Just get it done! Whenever it fits in your schedule is the best time for you. :drinker:0

There is no right time to workout but mornings are very good b/c it gives you so much energy for the rest of the day.0

I agree that whenever it wirks for you is best. The one thing I've heard some people complain of is that if they work out at night, they have a hard time getting to sleep cuz they're so amped up. I don't have that problem, so I go back and forth between mid-morning (when the gym has daycare) and early evening for zumba.0

Personally, I can't do nights because I get wired and I am such a morning person that then I can't sleep in and it messes with my body clock. But, everyone is different and even at other times in my life I COULD do evenings. Always better to workout, no matter what time, than to NOT workout.0

I workout at night after work.
I am not a morning person so for me to workout in the morning before work would be really hard.
I don't think it keeps me up at night. I think it actually helps me sleep better.
DH works out in the morning because he feel like it gives him energy for the rest of the day.
I think do whatever works out for you.

I have heard early morning before breakfast (so body burns fat and not what your ate), and I have heard late afternoon (optimium in regards to engergy and body tempature), and I have heard not to work out late at night (keeps one up). Can't say that I believe in any of that.
Personally, if work out on an empty stomach, then I am not nearly as productive if I had eaten first. If I work out too late, then I am not productive as well-I just wanna go to bed. I like late afternoon as I have the most engery and not too hungry for dinner, yet. And it has the added benefit of controlling my snacking, at work I don't have a problem with the snacks. It is after work in the empty hours between getting home, chilling, and waiting for the boyfriend to go home. I use to shop during this time, but :grumble:0
