It's very common to crave foods when you're tired, but often the reason for being tired has nothing to do with not having enough calories. Dehydration is a frequent cause of feeling tired, and of feeling hungry. Try drinking a glass or two of ice water and see if that helps.

Nope. I'm exhausted and not hungry at all.

Definately! I especially get this way when I've been up all night doing nightshifts. :(

Yes, I find that the same thing happens to me on tired days. I think the lack of sleep leaves our bodies trying to find the energy from somewhere else...and that translates into more food energy.

I think it's more to do with the fact that your brain wants some extra stimulation, so it sends hunger signals so that you will keep snacking to keep yourself busy.

I've found that drinking water really helps. Try some with slices of orange, cucumber or lemon floating in it. Really refreshing. I know for a fact that dehydration makes you tired and yucky feeling and sometimes even causes a little nausea.

I really appreciate the responses. Many different angles that I hadn't thought of. Extra stimulation sounds like the cause for me, kind of like eating when one is bored! Thanks everyone

In 12 step programs they say to remember H-A-L-T and never let yourself get that way.

Not REAL hunger, but yeah. For me, it's just as bad a trigger as being bored or sick - I just want something to make me feel better and for some reason that means I reach for food.

Make sure you're getting plenty of sleep. Make sure you're eating well and/or taking a multi-vitamin. Make sure you're drinking all your water. Try getting more protein in - I find that helps me feel fuller longer so the cravings don't come up so much. And, of course, try just keeping healthy snacks available so if you must have something it can be a fruit or 100 cal popcorn or similar.
