I can't stop weighing myself!!

It's seriously driving me insane! Every single time I go to the bathroom I see the scale and feel this overwhelming need to get on it and see how much I way at that very moment (ironically, before I started my weightloss journey I avoided scales like the plague). I tried putting the scale away, but than after a while I'll break down and pull it back out, or one of my roommates will get it back out (2 of my other roommates are also trying to get in shape). Even right now, as I sit outside on my porch, I feel the urge to go inside and get on the scale and weigh myself.
And I know that if I weigh myself as soon as I wake up and I try to get on as the day goes on, it won't give me an accurate reading, but I don't care, I still do it! I know seeing all of the varying numbres through out the day is going to eventually drive me coco baananas, but I just can't help myself.
Does anyone else just feel COMPELLED to get on the scale and weigh themselves before their scheduled weigh-ins or like me 3-4 times a day?

Throw out the scale. No good can come of it.0

Weigh once a week, same time of day, nude or in basically same clothing then you'll avoid discouragement.0
-
Hide it!0

I do all the time0

YES! I was so compulsive about my scale, that my husband confiscated it and hid it from me! LOL It's going to come out of hiding every two weeks for my weigh-ins. :-)0

Ugh I have gotten to where you are, too! I cant stop! And the worst thing is my scale is broken... or so says my sister.... so I weighed myself the other day and I was 124.6.... and then today I got on and I was 127.5... totally a normal fluctuation and normally I would be THRILLED at being 127, but the fact that I saw 124 at some point makes 127 soooooooo much worse!
I am right there beside you! Stupid scale! I cant throw it out because a) its not mine and b) what it says matters to me! lol0 -
Yep. I'm a slave to the scale. I made my boyfriend hide it somewhere and NOT tell me where it was. Now that I've hit my goal weight and decided I'm happy here -- I'm only going to get it out once a month (unless I notice a change in my clothes). I don't want to see the 5lb fluctuation I tend to have during the day ... it just depresses me.0

I have the exact same problem. I'm about to tell my husband to put it in his car, lol. He has the only key plys he works a lot. Maybe we can try this together? Have someone take it away & not tell you where it is0

Have one of your roommates hide it and ONLY bring it out when you need to weigh in. I have to have my husband do that for me, or I'm exactly the same way. And don't go looking for it either once it's hidden.0

I use to be as obsessed if not more. I later realized that i was letting myself down once I saw I didnt lose any weight or gained weight from my previous weigh in 5 hours prior! So its was counter productive. I would get discouraged and STOP. So now what I did was leave the scale at my mothers house. I just started MFP and it crosses my mind to weigh myself before my weigh in but I dont feel as compelled to do it as when it was here in my house. I was pleasantly surprised to see I lost 2 lbs the first week, but like with every other habit...you have to break it. Im still not 100% over the compulsive weighing but its gotten weigh better! INTERVENTION, lol. Out of sight...somewhat out of mind! :-).0

I weigh myself pretty much every morning. It drives me nuts, but I can't help it!0

Your not alone. I do it to :happy:0

I weigh myself more often than I should too, but I have an old fashioned spring scale, not a digital scale. This helps keep me from obsessing too much because I tell myself that they're not all that accurate and I can't watch the tenths of a pound going up and down.0

I used to avoid the scale totally and rely solely on measurements. Lately I've taken to a once-a-week weigh-in with the scale in the locker room at work. I agree with the others to talk to your roommates about having one of them hide it and only bring it out for regular weigh-ins. It's not worth it to torture yourself.0

I weight myself every morning and often every night too. It's so tempting! And it's motivating!0

I do it all the time... But I only remember the "official" measurement of the morning. The only reason I can do that is cause without my journal I can't remember what I ate for lunch. So unless you have a terrible memory I'd suggest you chuck the scale out the window.
I also weigh myself everyday, but only record once a week. I use the other weigh ins as a monitor of how on track I am.0 -
I have that issue too. What I have found though is that the more I weigh myself the more discouraged I get. I think once a week is great and it also gives you something to look forward too.0

I weigh myself whenever I go to the gym - which is 5 times a week. To start with it did mess with my head as I do sometimes seem to gain or lose over two or three days for no apparent reason and when you've worked out hard and seem to have gained, it's incredibly frustrating. That said, I'm not happy waiting a week - the reason I got fat in the first place was because I didn't notice that I'd put on 10lbs and then I got too scared to weigh myself and when I finally got on the scales I was 40lbs heavier. Yikes!

I do the same thing. I am becoming obsessed. I was like you I would avoid the scale before. What harm could it do? Better to be aware of where you're at then to totally avoid weighing at all.0

I weigh myself EVERY morning! It's like clockwork with me! Get up, go to the bathroom, weigh in (naked)...Otherwise, I avoid it from that point on until the next morning. I'm such a freak about WHEN I weigh myself that I refuse to get on the scale any other time of the day! I won't weigh in at the drs. office or anywhere else for that matter. I swear I'd break out in hives if I had to get on the scale any other time during the day!
Do what's best for you. I thought I was compulsive weighing in every morning. Maybe you can get it down to once a day! Good luck.0 -
Yeah, I think I'm gonna need to definitely have my girlfriend hide the scale from me and we only pull it out on Monday mornings. It's gonna take more will power than just eating healthy, that's for sure.0
-
throw it out! when i was still living at home, my parents got rid of the scales for about a year. and boy did it help me !0
-
holy!! I CANNOT make myself get ON the scale!! I'm like terrified of it. All I can think of is how discouraged I'll be if the number is higher than what I think! Let's trade a little0

I am a compulsive weigher myself -- at least twice a day. I only record my "official" weight once a week. But I find that it doesn't discourage me -- I just like to see what my body's doing morning and night. One week during my official weigh in, I had only lost 1/2 pound. Normally, i would have been discouraged about that, but I had actually gained 3 pounds that week. So I was thrilled by 1/2 pound loss!
Do what's best for you -- if it's really driving you crazy or disouraging you, then have your roommate hide the scale. If you a "numbers" person like me (accountant!) then perhaps you just have to deal with measuring more often.0 -
YES! I was so compulsive about my scale, that my husband confiscated it and hid it from me! LOL It's going to come out of hiding every two weeks for my weigh-ins. :-)
This is EXACTLY what I did. I was compulsively weighing myself, and I asked the husband to hide it, and to only bring it out on Friday mornings. Maybe you could ask one of your supportive roommates to hide it for you, and give it to you once a week?0
