Im interested in trying a shake at lunch time instead of having a big meal. I was looking to buy slim fast powder tubs.

I was just wondering that people thought about this product as ive done some research and to have 1 scoop of vanilla powder with 250ml skim milk it contains 30g of sugar, how can this help with weight loss.

Or am i just reading to much in to this?

Opinions greatly recieved!

I started out doing the Slim Fast 3-2-1 program and found the sugar content way too high. I still have some of the shakes, but only drink one if I am in a hurry.

I prefer Atkins to Slimfast. Much less sugar (1 gram) and more protein. Atkins keeps me satisfied for about two hours longer than Slimfast does.

Most of those shakes have an ingredients list that is way too long for my liking, it seems to me to be a much better proposition to eat real food!
Remember that those companies aren't out to do you any favours, their objective is to make money.

Yea slim fast is the worst one if you are actually trying to lose weight.. Best is to find a meal replacement shake from a health food store...the best tasting and working one that I use on occasion is the Herbalife ones. No I am not selling or pushing this product but I know it works I have seen the results. They have many flavors you can choose from. Basically what I am saying is find a company that cares about you actually losing weight and not just to sell their products to keep you coming back.

    Have an awesome day!!!! =0)

Would you recommend Atkins instead then? Im justing thinking of something that will fill me so i can enjoy my evening meal and not worry if i go over if i go to a restaurant or something. =)

I tried the Adkins ones before and taste-wise they were very good. The problem I run into are the shakes that are the most healthiest for you taste the NASTIEST!!! LOL. I went to GNC and tried Lean Shake and that is the one I like the most. I'm gonna see how good it actually is for you before continuing. I know a protein shake will help with my snacking and cravings and also give me protein to help with the fat loss and muscle building. I was on Herbalife before and yes it has its results as well, but again I think they try to "get you" by having to buy the additional supplements.

If yo can't read it don't eat it! Plus the sugar content is way to high. Remember eating healthy food will help you lose weight. Drinking a shake like that is not going to do you any good but probably harm
  • Way to much sugar. I'll bet you will be hungry again after a very short period of time..
  • I actually did well on 'Slim Fast' and lost 30 lbs. in 3 months time but once I went back to not eating well, I gained it all back! I would go back to that if I needed to but just eating and living a healthy lifestyle has lost me the same amount of weight in 4 months time. I often thought about trying it again along with my new fitness lifestyle. I also had six children and wish I would have done this ten years ago but then again there is no time like the present to loose weight.

Never tried Slim Fast but there is Nature's Plus Spiru-tein (not sure if I spelled it right). It is a high energy powder meal you can add to milk or juice. Very good and is a soy based product. You can only find it in health stores. It might be an alternative for you.

This is great advice! Just remember there is still natural sugar in fruit so make sure you bulk out your smoothie with milk or natural yoghurt.

Slim Fast definitely isn't worth it. There are so many better choices out there for meal replacement shakes.

I lost 60lbs using Slimfast. I now use Herbalife which in my opinion taste better but is more expensive. Everyone I ever knew that was on the Atkins diet gained all their weight back again. Atkins is the worst way to lose weight and can't be healthy. If I was on the Atkins diet I would have probably gained 100lbs. I watch a friend of mine gorge himself on steak, eggs, etc. I'm afraid Atkins is going to kill him.

I found calorie counting worked the best for me and is much easier to maintain after reaching your goal. I never worried about carbs, fat or anything else except my calorie intake for the day. I kept track of it all using My Fitness Pal. The best thing is I never really gave up any of the foods I enjoyed. I just ate less of them. Another factor too is drink lots or water and walk or exercise.

People can disagree with me but I lost over 60lbs this way and I'm keeping it off. In the end you have to find what works for you.

I do agree with you on that. I prefer Herbalife shakes but I lost over 60lbs using Slimfast

My mom used to drink only the shakes and quickly went down to a size 7. But at 5'11", that's not very safe. She's now back up and eating healthy. But to be honest, I'd rather her be overweight and eating food than be starving herself, drinking the shakes, and not eating food for over a year!
  • I found Slimfast has way to much sugar for me. I bought an Oster single blender it came with a 20 oz mixing cup. I had a cup of skim milk and what ever fruit I have and make a shake. You put everything in the cup and blend it up right in the same cup and walk away. Its filling and cheap.
  • I've done all the shake diets like Lighter life and slim fast. It makes more sense just to have a salad and chicken instead as they're roughly the same amount of calories and at least your eating real food and you can have a drink with it so you will be more full.

I would - but just from my own personal experience. I'll have one around 3 in the afternoon, helps me not to overdo at dinner.
  • I'm on Slim Fast right now. I used it in high school and lost a lot of weight when I was on it. Yes there is sugar, but Slim Fast also contains a lot of vitamins and minerals that you need when going on a diet. Consumer Reports yesterday actually rated Slim Fast as the number two best diet. Just know that Slim Fast isn't a long term option -- i'm using it just to get to where I need to be in my weight and then i can maintain from there. It's very easy for me to maintain my weight but losing it is another story and I need the restriction that Slim Fast offers.
