Which is a better choice? Coconut or Fat Free Milk

I recently saw on Dr. Oz that coconut milk has health benefits, including something to help you burn more fat, aka loose weight. But the coconut milk I bought has 5gm of fat per serving. I'm wondering if non-fat milk or coconut milk would be a better choice?
BTW: on Dr. Oz the tester didn't care for the test of coconut milk and I agree; but if I can add it to things like shakes then it will mask the taste

Try some almond milk - the unsweetened kind has only 35 calories and is quite filling... as a bonus it is also available in box shelf form for emergency situations.0

I use unsweetened almond milk as well. I use it for everything. It took a little time to get used to but now I'd probably get sick if I drank regular milk.0

I have actually begun to drink almond milk as well. I just went to a site and copied this for you:
Nutrition Facts of Almond Milk:
Almond milk is good source of magnesium. It can help to break down the food into energy. It can also help in the functioning of the parathyroid glands, which produce hormones that are known to be good for bone health.
Also, almond milk is loaded with manganese, selenium and Vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects the cell membranes. Selenium is good for our immune system; it helps in reproduction, and in the metabolism of thyroid. It also prevents cell damage as well as tissue damage.
It is packed with unsaturated fat, which means that it can reduce the risk of heart disease.
As almonds are rich in protein, they help the body with growth and repair. It is also a great way to boost your daily carbohydrate intake. An ounce of this nut can provide the body with about 12% of its protein needs.
Almond skins are a good source of flavonoids, which are good for cardiovascular health. They can protect your heart from various heart diseases.
Manganese can activate the enzymes in the body. Manganese and phosphorous can keep teeth and bones healthy.
Almonds are rich source of potassium which can help to improve heart function and to maintain normal blood pressure.
Almonds milk does not contain cholesterol and saturated fats. It has high levels of vitamin E and unsaturated fats.
Almond milk has zero fiber.
8 oz (237ml) of almond milk contains 70 calories, 2gm protein, 10gm carbohydrates and 2.5 gm fat: 2.5g (unless you get the unsweetened, and as Kelley said, only 35 calories)0 -

Coconut milk is also available in the tetra packs. I use everything: % milk, coconut, soy and almond milk. I prefer almond milk, but I quite honestly keep going back to soy since it helps with my hot flashes.
I do however rely on coconut water for my post workout recovery drink. Nothing better!0 -
I've never seen Dr. Oz. My friends have mentioned his name several times though. The problem with him it appears is he makes things complex.
For instance, my friend said that Dr. Oz says you shouldn't eat an orange after a certain point in the day because it turns to fat or something. I told my friend anytime you eat an orange it's good. Why make it complex. There may be evidence to what Dr. Oz is saying yet the big problem is getting people to lose weight. This just makes it confusing.
I say if you like skim milk, drink skim milk. I've drank skim mild from almost birth. I grew up on a farm and we would skim the milk and then use the cream to make butter. I wasn't fat until I discovered fast food, then fast groceries.
Keep it simple I always say.0 -
There are different views on coconut milk, coconut oil and coconut water... Some believe it helps with metabolism and blood sugar levels, others think it's too high in saturated fats (similar to lard). If you have blood sugar issues, just losing weight helps with that... To boost your metabolism, try a couple jumping jacks throughout your day... or for both metabolism and blood sugar levels... spreading your meals to five smaller ones per day. Those techniques are not so controversial. I don't think it's worth risking the health of your arteries... especially when it doesn't even taste very good.0

I liked coconut milk, but preferred it in smoothies/shakes and other things like cereal and ice cream bars (homemade).
I prefer unsweetened almond milk, and have been drinking it for years. It's wonderful by itself, or in anything you'd use milk for, except coffee (unless you use more). I also drink unsweetened soy milk for the protein value if I'm low on protein intake for the day (being a veggie, that happens).
I've had hemp milk, oat milk, hazelnut and rice milk. I loved all of them except the rice milk. That one didn't sit well, as it had flakey stuff in it even after vigorous shaking. I'll give it another shot, but I'm still turned off by it. Lol.
Cow's milk has grossed me out for years now, but to be fair, the protein value is amazing there.
Good luck to you! Have fun and experiment!0 -
Unsweetened almond milk - hand Down the best.
I cant drink regular milk anymore, and when you have a sweet tooth try nesquick powder in your almond milk.

Yep - soy is one of the "natural" methods for managing hot flashes. Vitamin E is great too.0 -
I have recently switched from skimmed milk to unsweetened soy milk. The soy milk has more taste is creamer and has half the calories and sugar!0

Depends on your goals, thats how you would define "better".
I'd go with fat free milk because I like the extra protein.
But for someone else coconut milk might be the way to go.0
