Baseball doubleheadder today, so probably no running. I think 5 hours of baseball is enough. LOL!

I love body flow. I like most of the Les Mills series of classes the only one I can honestly say I do not like at all is Body Attack, reminds me of the old school jazzercise classes, blah!

Anyway, busy day today so I am going to take a rest, if time permits I will be getting in a quick 30 minutes. My goal this week is to try to run for the full 30 instead of doing intervals.

    Have a great Sunday everyone!
  • Hey y'all! Remember me? I've been outta town the past week so I haven't been able to post! Anyway I got out and did 3 miles yesterday and then I did 4.5 today..I haven't been running as much as I should have been this past week :indifferent: so I'm trying to ease myself back in. Anyways glad to be back and I hope everyone enjoys their day!

Hello, runners! Sundays are usually my rest days, but my buddies want to bike this afternoon so I said I'd join them for a ride. Then I think my family is going to go to a local state park for a nice family bike ride. My 5yo is riding w/out training wheels now, so that makes it really fun!

Have a blessed Sunday! Great job to the 10+ runners this weekend! I have found that I like the Jelly Belly Sport beans for longer runs/ rides. I used to use gels, but got SO sick of them while marathon training. I don't do well w/ Gatorade to drink, it makes me have tummy issues (too much sugar than I'm used to), so I stick to water and Sport beans.

    Thanks!:smooched:

Does anyone have a gps that you use for running? I am going to ask Santa to bring me one. So, I need to figure out what to ask him for?
  • OK, late checking in. Stayed up to late last night and couldn't get up in the morning. We took my daughter in and traded in her unreliable older beamer convertable for a new reliable Kia Spectra. She misses the convertable, but now we don't have to fix it each week. So she went to show her friends (18) and I was nervous until she got home so I didn't sleep until then. She wasn't in trouble, just a mom thing, you know.

    Anyway work out talk...
My neighbor finally fixed his bike that I harped on him about and he said he wants to go for a bike ride, so I will try to get him to go with me today. (If not, I will go alone) He does't really need to for weight, but he is older and it is I am sure good for him. I can't wait to see what kind of calories I really burn with my HRM I got. I think it will be really accurate since it was so close to MFP's listing for running time. But it is hard to compare biking, so many ways it could be different.

I am going to try and get in a run when it cools tonight since I wont get a chance tomorrow. I have to leave for work now at 6:45 and I will have to do the treadmill at like 4:30AM to run. Probably have to take it up in the evening.

    Anyone run mostly at night?

Did my 12-mile long run today. I do not recommend trying this with a stomach bug. I had to make two pit stops a long the way and now I'm feeling completely wiped. Ugh. I've had this thing all week - hopefully I'll kick it soon.

    Enjoy your day everyone!

    Happy Sunday everyone.

Looks like everyone is having a great weekend and not slacking off!

I, too, did great this weekend. Ran 6 miles Saturday morning and 9 this morning. Feeling very good about my race next weekend. I only hope that this amazing August weather can hold up one more week!

Kechie - all the members of my running club use the garmin gps watch. They all love it. It is big though! and the only negative that I have heard from them is when we are running in a very wooded area it seems inconsistent.

Ahn - Welcome back!! We did miss you! Glad to hear you are getting right back to it!

Have a great rest of your day everyone! Keep running!

    Hi all runners:

First off super job to everyone! Didn't post y'day, but I did 1 hour of Kenpo and then a 4k run. Burned close to 1000 calories. and today went on a 40 Km bike ride, and burned according to my HRM 1500 cals (MFP alloted me 1270). So Yay me.

Ketchie: I have the Garmin 305. Yes it is big, but I love it. Keeps track of all sorts of info depending on your needs. Yes, when you are running through wooded areas the reading seems off, but when you are done and get the totals, it seems to have registered it okay.

Mireille: When someone is running for over an hour, they do need a boost. You are supposed to get in a good amount of water before a run, and then a couple of ounces every 15-20 minutes. You would have to try gatorade, or the beans or gels to see what works for you.

Hessie: Wow you are committed! I can't imagine running with a stomach bug. Hope you didn't set yourself back. Chug some gatorade, it may help

Okay off to shower and then dinner with the inlaws :ohwell:

Thanks Carol! I am looking at the 205 b/c I just want some basic info (overall time & mile pace). Currently, I memorize my mile markers for lots of different routes and my mile pace while I'm running. Exhausting for me! I'd like to be able to not have to memorize so many numbers while I run longer.
  • Hi everyone,
Just wanted to share a really good feeling with everyone !
I started dieting in January and have managed to lose 35 pounds, just want to lose another 7 but more importantly I want to find a way to keep the weight off long term and get into a really healthy lifestyle.
Well when I first started running on the treadmill at the gym 6 months ago I could barely manage 5 minutes, and today I ran for 1 HOUR for the first time in my life !
Interesting as I always thought running was definitely not for me !!! I am starting to get really addicted to it and I've decided to prepare for a 10K race.
It's great to see everyone's stories and to know I'm not on my own, will probably be asking lots of questions in the next few months regarding training, etc !
I live in the UK and have just bought a great book called "Running made easy", I think it's available in the US as well, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to get into running, it's full of great tips and inspirational stories !

Keep up the good work everybody !

    Welcome Severine!

That is such a wonderful story! You should share this story with all the members too - I know so many MFP members would be inspired by this story! I can also remember a day when I thought running more than 30 minutes or more thean 5 miles was completely out of my abilities, now I am running 5 days a week averaging 30 miles per week.

Races are a wonderful motivator to keep you trying to ever improve your time and they are just fun! Good Luck, post daily with us! Let us know when you race is so we can cheer you on!

Welcome to the runners club and congrats on the big hour run. I bet you felt awsome!
Thanks for the tip on the book. I may check into that myself, even though I know I could do a 10k, I would for sure like to do more and that book sounds good. I am still slower than I would like also.
My only tip is if you are going to run on the road for a race, you need to get out and see what it is like to run on the road. Out of the treadmill and out to the outdoors.
    Good luck to you!
  • Thanks Strawberry Margarita, that's actually what I've started doing in the last few weeks, there's a great massive park near my house, so I go there running now and it's really made a difference, so much nicer to get some fresh air, I find the treadmill really boring now, I only use it to do specific training eg. to increase my speed, uphill / downhill, etc.
Hope you enjoy the read !
