Is the calorie calculations for exercise accurate? I did 30 minutes on the elliptical at a 10 %incline 5% resistance and of course it doesnt offer that option on here, it just offers up elliptical trainer, but I want to know how accurate teh calories burned calculator is on it. Anyone got any idea?

Does your elliptical tell you the calories you've burned? if so, go by the machine. Since it knows your weight, resistance, etc it will give you a more accurate reading. Everyone here says to get a heart rate monitor, but I can't afford one right now.. so, I just go by what the machines (or my Ipod pedometer if I'm outside walking) say I've burned. It's as close as I can get for now.0

I've found that for me, the calorie count on my elliptical runs really high and the calorie count here on MPF is generally low. Annoying.0

ha! So what I do is adjust the minutes on MFP to match the calories that the machine told me!0

Is this a machine where you can enter - gender, height, weight, etc.? If not, the machine is most likely overstating the calories burned. Most machines have the default gender set to "male." You might want to take the average between machine + MFP.0
