For those of you who have hit plateaus, how often did they happen to you, how long did they last, and what did you do to break them?

Of everything that weight-loss involves, I'm more afraid of plateaus than anything.

Hit my 1st plateau 5 weeks into my diet/exercise plan. I had to change up my diet--eat clean foods, pyramid my calorie intake, and change my exercise routine. Plateaus happen because your body gets used to the routine/diet and adjust your metabolism accordingly. So you gotta keep your body confused and guessing. To prevent a plateau, I've been changing it up every 2 weeks and I haven't hit a plateau in 2 months.

It took me 5 months and 58 lbs to plateau, and it isnt a total plateau but Im not loosing at the rate I did before kind of thing.

Absolutly change up your routine, caloric intake, its actually not a bad idea to have a "bad" couple of days then get back on track. Also change up your workout routine, workout duration and/or intensity

My body tends to plateau every 9 pounds or so. I go a couple of weeks trading pounds up and down, and then suddenly the scale starts to move. This has happened to me twice so far.

Overall, I just try to be patient -- I find that my body just wants to be "comfortable" for a while. I do try to shake things up a bit by varying calories and shaking up the exercise a bit, but for me, the best way to get over a plateau is to be patient (which I am NOT good at!)
