I know we're all here for some form of weight control which calories are a part of but do we perhaps forget about health and nutrition when we plan our foods?

It goes hand and hand.. Eat GOOD calories and stay within calorie goal to loose weight. Easy as that

There are a lot of people who continue to eat processed food, sweets and other junk and think they're doing just fine if they stay under their calorie goal. It's simply not true. Those types of foods are loaded with chemical ingredients which are harmful and in some cases (artificial sweeteners for sure) actually toxic substances. I think the biggest problem is that people just aren't educated enough about what is in their food and what it actually does to their body. Unfortunately, many people just aren't willing to listen or aren't willing to give up certain things to improve their health.

Maintaining a successful plan for weight loss, then maintenance, and overall health includes a diet rich in whole foods (some call it "clean"), reducing or (hopefully!) eliminating processed and fast foods, and exercising. Feeding your body what it really "needs" is different that just eating. Feeding your body based on your activities (which is what this site is teaching you to do) with whole grains, nuts, fresh/raw fruits and vegetables, legumes, and lean proteins will yield lasting results. You'll learn what it feels like to be healthy, rather than what it feels like to reach a goal weight using modified unhealthy habits.

One step at a time. I like processed foods and eating out. I'm trying to be wiser and look at portion sizes. I think looking at the calorie goals, carbs, fats etc is a good start. I can't be sucessful if I'm told I need to only eat food I don't really like. I'm trying to add healthier foods in, but I don't want to give up my favorites.
