First week MFP and gaining more weight!

This is my first week in here and as the topic said I'm gaining weight.
I try my best to eat suggested calories though I under it less than 100 cal/day.
Please tell me I will lose some weight in next few weeks.
My commencement day is in next month and I should lose some not gain some : (
I'm pretty short and always chubby.
Last week weight 127
today weight 130 lbs
My goal is 1210/day.
Before getting into MFP, I gained 20 lbs within 2 years.
This 20 lbs came after I moved to this freaking cold Boston and I hate to get out or doing anything except being potato couch during winter. I ate more than 1200 per day before with twice a month exercise.
Now I'm trying to exercise 3-4 times/week with more limit diet (and I just started to cook healthy food).
How come I gain weight!?!
I'm not whining, just asking if anyone can explain this...I'm so depressed.

lots of reasons could be why... might be retaining water because your body isn't used to be so hydrated, too much sodium, change in diet might have backed you up so you need to poo, or period hormones? keep up the good work & i'm sure you'll see a difference soon & make sure you get enough water & log everything you eat. a bite of things here or here adds up calorically fast!0

Hello!
Well seeing as I cannot view your food diary, nor do I know your exact height or build, this is all just assumption that I am basing this on.
I am also a shortie, I am 5'3", and I weigh 119 lbs. When I first got on here, I weighed 122, and I was eating the NET 1200 that MFP was recommending. HOWEVER, just because it recommends this, doesn't mean this is right. I wasn't loosing any weight, so I upped my calories by a couple hundred. I lost a lb each week since then!
Sometimes our body's don't like such a low calorie intake, and it needs just a little boost.
So my suggestions are A. up your NET calorie intake or B. continue doing what you're doing, drinking PLENTY of water! This is only the first week, so don't sweat it! If you are already a skinny minnie, then the weight wont come off as easily, and it may take a bit more time! :-)
Good luck! I hope I helped, even if only a little!
Friend me if you want =]0 -
I just moved to South Dakota, and gained 30lbs the first winter!
I started working out this past winter, and at first, I did gain. I figured it was just water retention! You will lose, just keep at it. Try to exercise at least 30mins. a day 5 days a week.0 -
Welcome to MFP!
Before you get discouraged, you should give your body a couple of weeks to acclimate to your new food intake/workout regime. Bodies are strange things and everyone reacts differently to new activity and foods.
Like others said, do make sure that you're eating at least 1200, and I mean AFTER adding in your calories earned through exercise. If after a couple weeks you're still not losing as much as you'd like, try upping your calories by at least 100/day. I know people (myself included) who need a little more cals than the site calculates to kick my body into weight loss mode.
Long story short, don't give up just yet! Keep up your hard work and keep your mind in a positive place!
Oh, and CONGRATS on commencement!0 -
I'm sorry to hear your feeling this way in your first week. You may want to consider making your diary public so people can look at it and give you suggestions...otherwise here are my recommendations/questions:
1. Check your sodium levels, high sodium foods can cause water retention which can equal a gain
2. Have you been honest with everything you journal? Have you been consistent and logged every bite everyday? No matter how bad I eat (or how much I drink) I write it all down. Everyday. Every meal.
3. What kind of foods are you eating? Just because you're at your allowed calories doesn't mean one is eating healthy. (For example, eating all your calories at lunch then not eating the rest of the day)
4. Eat breakfast
5. Drink at least 64oz water a day (i drink at least 120)
My hand hurts right now to keep typing. But a lot of people are probably going to request you make your diary public otherwise you will get general answers like I posted. Good luck! I hope this does work for you! love this site!0 -
Thank you so much for you guys' answers.
I just publicized my food diary (just learnt that it set as private)
I'm 5'3" too and I hope all this is water retention.
I'll try to drink more water and will keep you guys post.
Thanks again : )0 -
Glad you posted your diary...I looked at a few days and noticed you eat a good amount of Asian food that would be high in sodium. Also you really should eat at least 1200..your under eating...if you primarily eat Asian foods I would recommend adding sodium to your diary so you can see how much youre consuming.
Good luck!0 -
Ok...
So I was 127.7kg...Ive lost a few kilos thus far (Easter=bad / ) Im down to 124.2 as of this morning. I gained 700gm over Easter long weekend but its off again. Im on 1200 - 1250Cals a day. Never ever go under the 1200 mark. Your body goes into starvation mode anything below 1100Cals a day. Add Sugar to your watching totals along with the carbs, protien, etc. Don't freak when it tells you you've eaten too much sugar. Halve the total it says and you will know youre in the right still as it counts all sugars (good and bad) and all things have some sort of unadded sugar content - but try to keep that half amount under what it recommends. Make sure you eat the fats too as to lose fat you do need to consume good fats! Eat a variety of foods too! Colours are good! Drink your water!!! 8 glasses a day!! (2lts) Sorry I don;t know it in gallons/oz.... Ive gone onto low fat lite soy milk too which helps keep the cals down.
Ive always been a big girl. I have that many advice sources its not funny and this is the only way I have been losing about a 1kg constantly a week. I can choose what I want to eat and Im teh only "pressure". You have to be doing it for yourself in order for it to work and "think thin!!" Ive been offically eating right for a few weeks now and it is working but you have to eat the totals they suggest or set your totals for 1250 like i have and see how that goes. A little under or over is fine in the protiens and carbs. Set your Cal total to 1250 that way if your between 1200 and 1250 your knowing you're eating right!
Im not exercising as such...Im just casually walking about 30mins a day. A lot of sources say when you have lost the first 10 then think about doing more exercise but just let your body cope with one change at a time. Good way to get a sweat up it to stick the headphones in and dance around to your favorite music - the more upbeat the more you'll move..just zone out and have fun (exercise can be fun!) A lock on a door and having "me time" will help if you have kids/partners or live with others. They can't hear the music nor see you so you can go wild ;o)
Now I pick a day a week or each fortnight that I just eat what I want to... basically have a day off but don't over do it! It actually helps to re-boot your metabolism. Sometimes you plateu and this helps kick start you again. Also if you pick low carb/Cal foods you can eat a little more during the day but still be keeping to your totals. If you would like a few examples of what I have Im happy to share.
One thing I do do is this. Keep the breakfast the same...at least for the whole week. I have 2 or3 weetbix (wheat biscuits) and 125/200ml Soy milk everyday. Every night I have low fat yoghurt and frozen berries (its really yummmy). I have a fruit every day too. Consistancy helps!
Would love to catch up with you every few weeks to see how you're going if you would like. Im happy to compare notes or give/get motivation as needed :oD
Good luck, Think Thin, believe in yourself and remember you are a beauty no matter what!0
