So I LOVE green smoothies (and normal smoothies) and want to drink them everyday, but my blender is not the best at breaking down the greens the way the big super expensive blenders are (although mine wasn't cheap!)

My question is...Vitamix or Blendtec??? I know this is going to be about personal preference, but I am VERY interested in purchasing one of these and would love some feedback!!! Even if you haven't tried both, if you have one of them, how do you like it??

Thanks so much for the input!!! Have a wonderful day everyone!!!

heh, Shamrock Shakes would be my kind of go-to GREEN Shake too! =D Hense why I am here.

SO! What is a a green smoothie? I tried to add broccoli to one of my fruit smoothies once, BAD IDEA. What do you add to yours? What's your typical base recipe?

Most green smoothies or "Green Monsters" as some call them use a base of some sort of leafy green, primarily spinach (though I've heard of using Kale as well). Then you can mix up what you put in it. I've used blueberries, bananas, strawberries, flaxseed, whey protein powder, sugar-free chocolate syrup, etc.

My recent go to has been:

    2 cups Spinach
    1 cup FF milk
    1 banana
1 scoop Strawberry or Chocolate Whey
    a bit of ice cubes

I add raw spinach, frozen strawberries, half a banana, vanilla protein powder and water till it's the consistency I want. Super yummy! It looks gross because of the spinach but all I can taste is the fruit. If I'm making it more of a meal I will add a container of yogurt as well.

Blendtec!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my blendtec! I use it every day....sometimes twice a day. I guess this is a personal preference as I have only ever used the Blendtec...but I know they are both awesome blenders.

Some advantages that I really like about the blendtec is that it is short enough to fit under the cupboard so it sits nicely on the counter. I also like all of the preset buttons it has :)

I have made everything in it...including spinach ice cream! YUM!!! I was sold on the blender when I saw the demo at Costco.

Good luck! I don't think that you would go wrong with either one...I'm so excited for you...you won't be disappointed at all!!
  • My husband swears by his Vitamix! That's all I can offer, because we've never used the Blendtec. But he uses that thing for all kinds of smoothies and it works wonderfully.

I like my Blendtec b/c it comes with a great recipe book but more so, its supposedly not as bulky as the Vitamix. It fits perfectly on my counter without looking ugly. Also, it has some pre-set dials for Soup, Dressing, Batters, etc and works pretty well. I would make Green Smoothies all the time with apples cut up in big chunks and then spinach and oranges, and it would come out sooo good without adding anything else to them. I bought mine on ebay for a little cheaper since they do run you $300+.

Oh its also really easy to clean which is helpful when you use it through out the day.
