Hi guys! I am new here! I just starting using MFP and LOVE it. I have actually got 3 people to start using with me. YEAH!!!!

Onto my story and letting you guys know where I am at. :)

On Monday 4/18 I came down with a migraine that would not go away. By Wed the medication wasn't working and I called my doctor and he had me come in. He decided to draw my blood. He came back and asked me questions like "do you have to urinate alot?" and "do you seem to be really thirsty?" as well as several others. I knew where he was going with this already and answered his questions truthfully. No. I did not have any of the symptoms he was talking about. Then the question came I was expecting "Have you ever been told you are diabetic?" No I have not. To me I am thinking that ok, so apparently my glucose level (GL) is high (blood sugar). What I did not expect was the next series of events. He tells me that my GL was almost 400 and he is sending me to the hospital. After a multitude of test and many hours of waiting they decide that I am "ok" and to do a fasting test but I can go home. Fasting test turns up 250 for my GL. So the doctor decides that is it. I have to make a change in my lifestyle. He puts me on a diet of 1500 calories a day and working out a min. of 30 mins two times a week. Puncture my body and bleed out my life essence twice a day to check my GL. So now what?

So now begins my new journey. As of Wed 4/20 I weighed 250 lbs. My GL was 250. I just got off the phone and I go for a follow up today with my doctor to see where I am at.

I would love to meet people and help encourage others as I am being encouraged. :)

    Welcome!.

The key to MFP is - just do it. Just record what you do, and as you see how what you do affects your health, you will be encouraged to stick to it, reduce your food intake, and increase your exercise. It's almost magic, because it uses the real you (the you that wants to be healthy) to make choices rather than shame or guilt or rules.

The people here are fantastic - helpful and friendly and encouraging.

    Good luck!

    hi welcome and gd luck:smile:
  • Hello,
It sounds like you are doing the right thing by taking this step. I am also new to this community, today is my first day. I hope to see improvements in my blood pressure ( I have borderline HBP) as I make some lifestyle changes. It can be challenging to stick with. My issue is emotional eating, I tend to eat without thinking when I become upset.

I agree. Wish there was a "like" button for this one.

One key thing is to be honest and record everything. If you don't do that you are only cheating yourself.
  • Thanks for sharing your story. Now that they have determined that you have some medical issues regarding weight and nutrition can you get your insurance to cover a dietitian? I have PCOS and Kidney issues so I was able to get a referral for more help with diet and exercise.

You are taking the first step by accepting where you are at and evaluating your life style. This is a life style change that will infiltrate all area's of your life. It took me almost 3 months just to get all of my meals under control. I meet with my dietitian every month to review my food choices and work out routine. Im lucky to have a very supportive family and boyfriend. My kids do yoga and zumba with me ( they are 7 & 4, its very cute). Talk to the people close to you and get all the support you need.

A good idea is to take before pictures and measurements. There will weeks where you'll not loose but the inches will melt away. Check your weight once a week on a set day and time. Do measurements every 2-3 weeks to keep you motivated.

I do a 1500 cal intake with a low sodium of 1500 mg. Check out others food diary's to get ideas for meals and start eating your 1st meal with in the first hr of being awake. 300 cals per meal and eat every 2-3 hrs. Drink lots of water. Set mini goals like 10% loss, 1 lb a week or increase your work out time 30 mins every week.

Welcome to your new journey! You can do this.
