Does the gym burn more calories?

This is more of a personal finding. So I have been turning on my HRM right before I leave the gym locker room. Its at 89 from moving all around and getting my stuff settled. I have noticed that right when I get out of the locker room my heart spikes up. By the time I have my head phones on while filling my water bottle my HR is 120 and I am already burning calories before I am even working out. Thus I burn way more calories at the gym than at home by far. I do more than I do at home, at the gym. I think its because ever one has the same mind set and it is motivating seeing other people working out.

Do you think your hrm could be picking up readings from other hrm's? Hopefully it is just positive energy and anticipation of a great workout.0

I only started the gym a couple of weeks ago, but I was thinking about this today. I set the elliptical to go for 20 minutes and I was thinking at about 10 minutes that if I was out jogging, I'd have stopped to walk by now, but in the gym I didn't. It's like I've set the machine on a programme and there's no way I'm going to bail early!0

Right, but also because of "Competition." You are not by yourself and you want others to think that you are serious about being fit. Whether you are aware of it or not you are competing with whomever is next to you or may be watching. The HRM has just allowed you to be aware of your pre-workout adrenaline rush and your competitive nature. Cool!0 -
i definitely get more motivated at the gym & work out alot harder than if i was on my own; also the fact that we are "show offs" so we do more. LOL::smokin:0
