Hello,
I have been on mfp for about 6 weeks and have lost 9 pounds. However I am getting really stressed at work and am starting to fail at watching what I eat. When I get home I just "pig out" Has this happended to anyone else?

Yep, I'm familiar with this! My advice would be get rid of anything that you could snack on that would be bad for you. Replace eating with some exercise: hit the gym, go for a walk/run or some sort of activity. I find that after some exercise i'm less likely to pig out as it would undo what I'd done....and the exercise is a great stress buster.
Good luck!0 -
I'm a big stress eater too. I make sure I pack a healthy lunch and snacks to take at work. This way when I wanna eat, I have healthy options to choose from. A big reason we gorge after work is that we didn't get near enough calories in throughout the day. It's natural that you're hungry if you haven't eaten. Remember you need to try and consume all your calories each day. And Stephanie is right on, Exercise is a multi-purpose fix...you burn calories and it releases endorphine that make you feel less stressed!! Good luck!!0

Make sure you are getting enough good quality calories during the day. This takes planning and even packing appropriate food. Sounds crazy, but try some exercise, just 10 or 15 minutes of walking or better yet, jogging when you get home from work and that may help get your appetite in check and relieve some stress. If you think that is impossible, just watch some of those real life doctor shows and watch how after a 36 hour shift on their feet, they hit the gym or go kayaking to relieve stress. I don't know, just a thought.0

I do that too. It's helped me a ton to snack throughout the day, though, and to have designated snacks at home for when I'm tempted. I also try to pre-plan most meals and on weekdays when I work, try to make them super fast and easy so I don't get tempted to eat while I'm cooking or waiting.
Good luck in kicking it! It will probably just take a little forethought and planning, and you can do it!0 -

When you feel hungry - fix a big glass of ice water and sip on that first - sometimes we just need water and it helps makes you feel full, plus it's good for you! THEN, if you still feel hungry - have a snack. Yogurt or some fruit or some string cheese??
Wishing you luck0 -
I've got those days too. Do you have a spouse or gf that you eat with? If she could prepare food for the 2 of you when you're stressed that would allow her to make something healthier than what you or I would pick after a day like that. Or pickup something on the way home from wendy's like a jr hamburger and small chili. You get the sense that you're splurging on garbage but those together are healthy and are about 500 calories. Plus it's delicious.0
