Hello! I have a son that doesnt like going to the gym with me. I feel really bad when I go cus all he does is sit there the whole time when im working out. He doesnt play with the other kids cuz he's really shy. So im thinking of starting to workout at home but i dont have anything to workout with. Any advise on going to the gym or home workouts? Please let me know cuz im planning on starting back Monday when all the family drama calms down.

pilates and yoga, in my opinion, are great in-home workouts.

Buying a workout video set like P90X is worth the one time cost over monthly gym fees! And maybe when your son is home with you he can join in! (By that, of course, I mean probably dancing around copying the motions. :D)

Check out Beachbody's fitness programs. You can do them all at home and they have a wide variety for all fitness levels.
  • You can do some workouts at home - depending on what equipment you have. If you don't want to spend the money on a home gym set-up the best thing is the gym at least half the time.

Maybe you can borrow one of your sons friends to take with you...he may enjoy it more.

    Good luck.

You should try DVD workout programs. The Jillian Michaels workouts, and Tae Bo are relatively cheap and pretty effective over time. The Beachbody programs like Insanity, P90X, Turbo Fire, etc. are a little expensive but a great investment compared to the gym membership fees that add up over time! I've lost a lot of weight with Tae Bo and Insanity, and now I'm doing Turbo Fire.. I recommend it, it's super fun :) It'll make you look forward to working out

    Hi Faith!

I love going to the gym for zumba and cardio classes but for the past 2 months I've been doing P90X at home. I never really enjoyed using the machines at the gym mainly because it bores me over time. If u decide to start working out at home u might want to invest in some weights and some good workout dvds. It a hard decision for me because I love being around people (thats why I love the classes) but its also very convenient to exercise at home. Plus it saves some cash not having to pay the monthly membership fee and ur son may enjoy working out with u a little
  • I am a HUGE (no pun intended) fan of the Biggest Loser and have all but two of the DVDs at Wal-Mart. The boot camp DVD is awesome it just gets you in the right place to go to the next level. If you need a de-stresser, Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga does the trick. It stretches you out and works you at all at the same time. I use it when I get stress built up from the day. Your son might like the Boot Camp DVD becuase it is a challenge to see if you can make it through the first 2 weeks to move on to weeks 3 and 4!

I am doing the P90X workouts now and love them. The other option if you don't want to invest in a workout program (it can be expensive) is to look at the OnDemand channel. Most of the cable providers in my area have a "fitness" channel with 100's of choices.
  • If you don't have equipment you can set up a circuit at home - jumping jacks, pushups, planks, tricep dips on a chair, running the stairs, lunges, squats, crunches, mountain climbers, the list is endless!

Personally I love going to the gym because once I'm there I have no choice but to workout. I also find a healing power by excercising with others. As a teacher, I would recommend (depending on how long you've been going to the gym) for you to keep bringing your son. You can phrase it something like this, "Mommy needs her workout time to be healthy and you need playtime to be healthy too". My thought is that he will get sick of sitting in the corner and you will find him playing with the other kids eventually. It may take time but it will be time well spent. Good luck!

I noticed that, I just liked to imagine him dancing around trying to copy mommy like my nephew does.

As for free home workouts, you can look up moves on fitness websites like
    http://www.webmd.com/fitness-exercise/slideshow-30-minute-workout-routine#
or even YouTube has some videos!

It's tough with little ones around but I like it better at home. I will say the same thing, p90x (need weights and pull up bar also) or start with a Jillian micheals DVD you can pick up at walmart for $10. (also needs weights). I like them both so much I've been doing both everyday for the last two weeks. My 3 yr old likes to come sit on me if I'm doing sit ups push ups crunches, etc. but I TRY to tell myself this is better because it's more challenging.

p90x and other workouts may not be cheap, but worth the price of gas to get to the gym, gym membership and time to get to the gym. I will never ever spend money in a gym because I know you can get the same results at home, free or dvded.

Plus, what 4yr old want to be at a gym?
