So, yesterday I did my first workout with my trainer. Obviously, this moring, I'm as sore as can be, but in the best way possible. However, tomorrow, I have a bike ride scheduled. I do not want to forgo this ride, but not sure how I am going to do it with my thighs burning from all the lunging yesterday. Does anyone have any ideas of what I should do? Please help!!! Thank you!

You know how they say to drink what you drank the night before to cure a hangover?

Well it works for exercising too (not getting drunk) work out again today. Even if its low impact your body will seriously feel better once you get it moving again. Do not baby yourself today or you will be in serious pain tomorrow (majority of your muscle soreness comes 48 hours after working out, so if your in pain now, tomorrow will be worse)

    Work it out.

i agree! working out! even if it's walking it will help loosen up your muscles and make them feel better. :)

The first thing you should do is tell your trainer that you felt sore and that it impacted on another scheduled activity. Chances are your trainer hasnt taken into account activities you do outside the gym (which they should) when developing and periodising your workout plan.

However, as long as your not so sore that you feel you may risk injury through decresased range of motion and muscle weakness then you should be ok for light cardiovascular exercise . The soreness associated with muscle soreness (DOMS) can sometimes be temporarily relieved during light cardiovascular exercise and may improve recovery ;)

    stretch!!!
    drink water!!!
    keep those muscles active!!!
  • Best thing for muscle pain is get moving. I know it's the last thing your muscles want to do but using them will work out some of the soreness. Don't do the same thing you did yesterday though, mix it up, go for a walk to warm up those muscles and use them in a different way.
ALSO, I read ginger helps with soreness.
I put some in my fruit smoothies and I bought some ginger ale too and it really does help. Ginger ale in my fruit smoothies is a fun way to spice them up once in awhile too!
Best of luck with your journey - you are off to a terrific start.

Take a couple of Tylenol, stretch and go on your ride.....after a while the muscles will loosen and warm up and won't be as painful - until you stop......
