25-pound barbell plate

I have found it a useful exercise to walk into a gym and pick up a 25-pound (11.3 kg) barbell disk. Those things are HEAVY. Now imagine dropping it on your foot. Sit down and balance it on your knee.
If you're 25 lbs overweight, then that's basically what you're doing to your knees and feet with every step! The knee in particular is so vulnerable; the meniscus is this little 1-square-inch pad of cartilage that separates the bones, and it's absorbing an incredible amount of energy each time we walk or run.
I think to myself, I'm going to weigh this much LESS in about 4-5 months. It's just kind of amazing how much weight we can get used to hauling around. I can't wait (weight?) until August!
