Just curious if some of you who typically engage in these exercises could share with me there 1 rep max and 5 rep max for these exercises. I'm looking to see if there's a correlation in the difference in weight. I had a dead lift 1RM max of 275 lbs (limited by grip) and a Leg Press 5 RM max of 600 LBS. Also, any advise on how to gain grip strength? Thanks in advance.

I can only give my 2 cents regarding the second part - grip strength. You might try doing your lower body exercises with dumbbells, and your grip will have to improve to keep up with the weight. I guess the downside there is that you might be forced to use less weight than your legs might otherwise handle.

Every time you do a dead lift you are working on your grip strength and if you want to max i recommend using lifting straps. I use them when i dead lift but I try to only use them on my last set when the weight is heavier and it starts to kill my callouses.

also on the leg press you will be able to leg press way more than you would be able to dead lift or squat because the leg press plate is usually at an angle that takes some of the weight pressure off.

As for grip strength I have started to used an old gi (or you can use a rolled up towel).
I wrap the gi around a pull up bar and grip the thick fabric and do as many pull ups as possible. at first this will be very hard but you will notice with time it will be easier. This helps my grip strength in Jiu Jitsu. I would think it would also help your grip strength on deal lifts.

I probably leg press double what I deadlift.

Like others have said, You could always use straps, or hooks to help on your grip, so that you can get full max if your grip is failing you.

I dont do 1rm thats for losers
Anyways my 1rm is probably 250lb (just started lesss than 2 months ago) on deadlift and I dont do leg press but probably 1rm on squat would be over 250lbs
On grip for deadlift one arm uses underhand grip while the other uses classic grip

    Oh hai little guy.

Anywho... Leg press really doesn't do much. Especially in comparison to deadlifts. Deads are about the most involved compound lift you can do because it hits all over.

The leg press actually compresses your back in a bad way and can do severe damage over time.

And deads/shrugs are about the only exercises where straps are really useful and not detrimental.

When I was lifting I could dead lift 390 lbs with straps and leg press around 550. Without straps, I couldn't hold onto the bar.

Forget straps, and ditch the gloves. Chalk your palms, drop to about 65-75% your max and go for higher reps. You can try hex holds for time to increase grip strength.

Straps will only make your grip weaker.

    Keep it simple. Good luck.

What koosdel said. I train for competition, where straps aren't allowed, so I use chalk for my really heavy sets. You have to build up those callouses. My 1 RM for DL so far is 255 at 122 lbs. Thirty years ago in college I competed in the 148 lb class and my 1 RM for DL then was 363. I don't do 1 RM for leg press as that's an auxiiary exercise for strength and conditioning, not competition, so I usually do 3-6 reps in my last set.

    Current bests:

    Deadlift 1 rep - 330lbs and my best 5 rep is 264lbs

Leg press never tried a 1 rep max, but I can get a set of 5 at - 638lbs

I avoid usually avoid straps, chalk, gloves etc etc...Sure my hands are calloused and they bloody well hurt during the lift, but I use an alternate grip and I find that it does help maintain your grip.

I must admit when I have used straps I can get that one extra rep but I know my grip is already gone.

Improving grip is a tough one, I try wrist curls, and forearm exercises, I've switched to a holder type bag instead of my rucksack. I have bought a set of hand grippers to use when at the office and bored, and I remember reading about plate pinching, basically put two plates against each other (smooth side facing out), grip them and hold until you feel the burn :)

My best deadlift was 4 reps at 650. I didn't do the leg press machine much but I could do more than 1000 pounds on it. For grip strength I did a lot of forearm curls and squeezed a tennis ball.
