Diabetes and calories

So today I noticed that I had done my usual 1 hour swimming and I followed it up with a new 30 minute Pilates for beginners video (via Netflix instant stream) I wasn't trying to over do it. I did this a good few hours apart.

Thing is...I found after eating all my meals I am still at 601 calories net. Now I read about the eating back exercise calories so you get to the minimum of 1200 calories for the day. Most days I am fine with that. But I am now increasing my exercise to 60 minutes 4x a week. I do this FOR Diabetes. Specifically I go in the afternoon after breakfast and before lunch. I do this to lower my bg and keep it down to normal as possible levels and help decrease the bg spike. I CAN'T eat back my calories. I just go on and eat my normal meals. I don't starve by any means. I eat 5 times a day...every few hours. Not starving. But...I can't eat those calories back without spiking my sugar..which would mean another walk around the block to lower which would mean...well you see the circle?

I do fine on the weekends since I work and don't exercise. Though I am a waitress at a bowling alley so I am constantly moving! I'm also going to assume with this new upping of exercise that I will be eating about 1300 calories a day but that won't include my exercise.

Any thoughts from the peanut gallery?

*also seeing the doc in a week..so I will ask him but just wanted your experience with this.

Thanks!

*hands out sugar free cookies!

What about eating the same amount of food at meal times, but trading out for foods denser, or higher calorie? I am not very familiar with diabetes and how it works, but there may be some meats or nuts that you can add in during meals to help gain calories while avoiding carb/sugars. (that is my best guess at how diebetes works, I'm still learning!)

You can eat them back, just eat veggies or things that don't have carbs(or very low) if possible. Crystal light has about 5 cals per serving so you could have that instead of regular water, sugar free jello, etc. Carbs and sugar will raise your blood glucose so just try to find other options.

True. But 600 calories worth? Do you know what 600 calories of veggies look like? I'd be pooping green for days!:noway:

This is definitely a question for your doctor. Don't eff with what you're eating without speaking with him/her. No one here can give you the information that is 100% specific to you except the medical personnel that are dealing with you and your condition.
