Sporatic HRM

So.. I'm exercising and my HRM indicated a heart rate of 123 on second and 152 the next second? It is a new HRM so I don't think it's broken. It never read more than 138 before (my highest HR when exercising). It worried me a bit. Any idea as to why it would have done that? Could the calculations be correct jumping that high it only a few seconds?

Have a great day everyone!

If it just jumped momentarily I wouldn't be concerned. You HR can fluctuate from time to time. As long as it didn't stay there too long, I'm sure it's OK. Were you at a gym? Were there other people around? That could also have caused the momentary spike.

    Hi There!

Thank you. That makes me feel a little better. I tend to worry needlessly sometimes but it's just my nature.

I've been doing the same regimen for over a week 2 x per day and have never had a reading in excess of 132. Today, it spiked to 152 and then to 202. It literally read "118" one second and "202" the next second. It went back down as quick as it went up but it truly concerned me.

I work out by myself so no one else was around. It was also in the same surrounding I always work out it so I'm going to safely assume there were no interferences.

    Again, thank you!!!

    138, not 132 :)

If you have the cloth strap then wash it once a week. Make sure it is tight and wet the sensors before you put it on. The sporadic reading is from a poor connection.

    Thank you Scott :O)

I made the strap tighter and wiped it down and had no problems today.

    Have a great day!
