Afternoon,

I have started running again, and remember now why I love it so much....

BUT, I am suffering with stitches. It's really putting a downer on it, and I don't enjoy running as much as I should do. Can anyone tell me what I can do to stop this happening, or has anyone got any tips that have helped them in the past? I know why it's doing it, but that doesn't help me!!

take deep regular breaths, try 1 breath in over 2 steps and 1 breath out. slow your pace down a little, stretch your side before and during runs by lifting your hand over your head. As you lungs and diaphragm get stronger they will decrease. Don't give up!

Heres a Link to why and how to fix it but the main reason is you need to Breathe Deeply

This works for me, usually....when you exhale, make sure you exhale when your LEFT foot hits the ground, not the right foot.

The other suggestions are all great. I also found if I chew gum, or suck on a cough drop (be careful not to choke) it helps me regulate my breathing...........

I used to get stitches as a teenager running, but I haven't since I restarted last year. I think it is about breathing. I used to get asthma, which I have almost totally under control these days. Try to breathe from your diaphragm, low down, your shoulders shouldn't move when you breathe.

I will focus on my breathing and inhale over two steps exhale over two steps... it also helps me refocus when i start to feel fatigued.
