I was just wondering what you do about vacation. I want to enjoy my vacation & not count every little calorie but I also don't want to gain a ton or go crazy eating whatever. I was just wondering if people normally still check in & count them or not.

Thanks

We're going on vaca in 5 weeks so I would like to know too.

I downloaded an app for my phone that has all restaurant foods listed. I know it will be very helpful. Other than that i'm always gonna have healthy snacks handy & lots of water

Depends on where you're going. When I vacation, it's usually about a hundred million dollars for the internet, so I don't check in.

But then, I tend not to have lazy vacations. I'm the one that's up and out at 6. Start your meal with the filling stuff-fruits, salads. Lay off the breads.

Relax, and enjoy. Deal with the fallout when you get back. Half the world has no option to go on vacation, the least you can do is not stress over it.

I'm at the airport right, about to leave on vacation. I've been thinking about the same thing. My family likes to eat way too much, almost to the point that sometimes at the buffets they give us ugly looks. However, I like to run because it's my way of exploring the area, so I'll do a lot of that to balance out the eating...
  • I will be heading to my brother's beach house in June. I will be cooking a majority of the meals, so I can control things. I will be taking my laptop and HRM. I am planning on keeping track somewhat. I do plan on eating out some and eating my favorites without feeling guilty. I plan on getting some bike rides and walks in for some cardio to buy back some calories. I already know I won't be perfect, but I won't be going hog wild either. I think keeping track somewhat will keep me accountable to where I am not eating 2000 calories over budget each day.

We are off on a self-catering holiday on Monday. Our normal holiday fayre is pub lunches, restaurant meals, take-aways etc. This time we are going to cook a lot of our meals ourselves, that way we can monitor things more easily. We do have 3 teenagers so will treat them to a couple of meals out but will choose places that have a good range of healthy options on the menu. I will try to log-in whilst I'm away but will be restricted by what wi-fi connection I can get.

I haven't been on a vacation since joining MFP but I'd say it depends on whether or not you have internet access and whether or not you can continue your good eating habits. If you eat the same types of foods you normally eat with only a few indulgences thrown in, you won't hurt your long term goals. You may not lose much while on vacation but in that situation I think the main goal should be to have fun without gaining, and that's definitely possible.

Thanks fo rthe advice. I am going to be at Disney but can try to eat some healthly foods. I just know that my husband will want to eat whatever he wants & the kids too so I just need to keep a check on what I am eating. I might be able to log in some but me & my husband both try not to use the phones to much & things like facebook on vacation. The main thing I need to watch will be drinks but I am planning on drinking lots of water.

great questions :) as long as you stick to the water and some healthy options for food at the restaurants, all the walking you will be doing at Disney will be enough to keep you active. Enjoy your vacation with your family and just remember that you know how to be healthy and how to make good choices. Believe in yourself and you will do great! Have fun!

The stress of being in an uncontrolled situation causes me to eat like hell. I didn't stop eating the whole time we were in Vegas. Now i'm paying for it!

Having said that, I think part of being on vacation is being able to eat and enjoy yourself. I just WAY overdid it.:ohwell:
