My Elliptical isn't working right - anyone know how to fix i

Hey, does anyone know anything about Elliptical's?? My elliptical was making a lot of nose when I work out - squeaking types. . . the last workout, it started making a knocking noise. So brilliant me I WD40 it. Now, it will hardly move and when I get it to move it jerks. . . I tried to "work it out", but it was to painful trying to make it move. I'm hoping that maybe letting it set will help, and I have a friend who knows nothing about it, but is willing to take it apart to try to fix it. . . Any advice??? I'm actually feeling lost not getting to work out (which in itself I think is a good thing)
