So who actively includes this in their exercise regime?

I just bought a hula hoop to embrace the child in me. :)
Then...I realized I have absolutely no idea how to hula hoop and have never been able to. So any advice for a person that can only hula hoop on the Wii?

I need to get one! I used to hula hoop when I was a kid & I was pretty good at it. I've heard it's a great ab workout.

I have never done normal hula hooping, I was always the kid just swinging it on my arms! But I'm hoping it works out.

I've goT a special ab toning one. It hurts! But it's good
I was rather disappointed tho when I couldn't add it to my cardio workout cos I have no idea how many calories it burns

That's funny that this came up now. I bought my daughter one for Easter (less candy, more stuff for outdoor activity!) and decided to get myself one too... Got it home and found out I can't do it to save my life! I'm sure the neighbors got a great kick out of watching me try though... :embarassed:
Good luck to all of us who are trying to remember how to become great hula hoopers!!!!

At least you're trying to remember! I'm learning from scratch. :blushing:
I'm sure you'll bring all the humor in the world to your watching neighbors as well.

Did you get yourself a grown up hula hoop or one of the plastic ones they sell at grocery stores and Target?

A grown up hula hoop is much larger - many recommend that standing on its side, it should come to about your sternum for beginners. And they are a bit heavier. This all makes hooping possible for mere mortals. Even experienced hoopers would have a hard time with a child's hoop.

Hooping burns roughly 200 calores per 30 minutes. As with any exercise that isn't in the database, a quick google search will give you decent information.

There are plenty of youtube videos available, but you should also check your area for classes - hooping is back with a vengeance.
