BMR and Caloric intake questions.

Hi, I'm new here. I have a few questions about BMR and what my goal calorie intake should be.

To start, I am a 5'11", 309.2lb, male.

My goal is to lose as much body fat as possible. According to http://www.bmi-calculator.net my BMR is 2,696.82, and at a sedentary lifestyle my daily calorie intake to maintain my weight is 3236.184 (BMR*1.2).

It states to lose weight that you should create a deficit of at least 500 and no more than 1000 calories below your maintenance calorie intake. That would make my calorie goal for the day 2236 (3236.184 - 1000, rounded).

Does this sound right?
Does the 1000 limit apply to people as over weight as I am?

I ask because I lost 18lbs in April with a 2000 calorie limit. But I don't want to hurt myself by not eating properly.

Any advise?

Thanks!

Personally i think you should stick to the limit. As tough as i can be to accept slower weight loss, it'll be easier and last you longer, it's more healthy to lose weight slow. If you're serious about this, stick to what you learnt and see what MFP tells you, it's pretty accurate, too.

If you get below your BMR, your body will go into survival mode and you will lose a lot less!

I was told by my doctor that you go by the amount of calories you need to maintain at your IDEAL weight, not existing weight. So, my ideal weight is around 1500 calories, but I am limited to 1200 per day for the first 40lb loss.

    Hope this helps!
