There are a lot of great products out there. I've tried a few different ones, my favorite is Polar.

I have the Polar FT4. Use it every day. It is water proof and tracks calories burned. Make sure it isn't the F4. That is the older model. Target had the old model marked as the new one and I had to return it and search for the new model at other Target stores. The old model has to be sent in to change the battery.

Does the ft4 use a chest strap? Also have you tried swimming with the watch as it says it's water resistant not water proof?

You can use the Polar FT7 in water..they just advise against pressing buttons on the watch while it is fully submerged

Can you get any that are good where you don't need a chest strap?

Can you get any that don't have a chet strap or at least I could use for swimming? I would use the polar 30-50mtr one for swimming as it says that for underwater swimming and vigorous swimming the 100mtr ones are ok
