I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome when I was a teenager, and I still have a hard time losing weight. I am on Metformin, exercise almost daily, and on a low carb diet. I have lost 24 lbs since Valentine's Day, but I have hit a major plateau. Every time I lose weight, it comes off until about this level and then I start gaining again. Anyone who have PCOS have this problem? Any tips?

I was also diagnosed with PCOS as a teen. I am now 30 and I have always had trouble with weight loss. I am also on Metformin. It helps a little. I find each pound is a struggle. Feel free to add me if you want someone who will totally understand the frustrations!0

Hello!
I'm 31 and was diagnosed with PCOS last year. I always chunky but really starting packing it on after my first baby and even more after the next 2. Combine that with no excercise and food eating= recipe for fattness!
I was on Yasmin and Metaformin up until Feb, when I made a commitement to change my lifestyle - NOT DIET! I started reading Mark's Daily Apple in Jan and by Feb made the choice to try the change. I grant you it's not for everyone and unless you make a real commitment to chnaging your life habits NOT doing just a diet it will not work. But after cutting out certain foods from my daily life my weight has dropped 30lbs(about), several cm around hips, bust, waist, my acne is cleared up, my roscea is pretty much cleared up too, my mood and stamina is much higher, my tests come back in the normal range and I've gotten my TOM naturally without any medical intervention which I didn't have in over 10 years!
It's still a struggle, I'm not eating it's an easy way - it takes work, dedication and commitment, but it worked for me! And finally I'm not going to say it's a cookie cutter way to lose weight for women with PCOS but sure is something to give 30days of your time to ...
Me too feel free to add me as a friend.0 -
I am also a cycter...i was diagnosed in may 2010, I am hoping to see a new doc to get on metaformin...the only thing I am afraid of is getting pregnant to soon, the birth control dose bad things to my body.0

Hey there! I also have PCOS, was diagnosed as a teenager, and was on Yasmin/Yaz for years to control it. I never took metformin though.
What I've found is that while it is definitely harder to lose weight with PCOS, it isn't impossible. It is really hard when you stick to your calorie goals and MFP tells you that you should be losing 8 lbs. per month, but you're lucky if it ends up being 5 lbs. per month. It is hard to see that other people have lost in three months what it took you a year to lose. But at the end of the day, you gotta stick with it. Slowly but surely, you'll get there!
I hit my first major plateau recently... I've only lost 6 lbs. since December. But you have to remember that the less you have to lose, the harder it is.
There are a few things you can try- zig zagging, for one, to keep your body guessing. Or, give yourself a day or two every week where you go a little bit over the 1200 calories. If your body is used to the same exact thing, it is harder to lose weight. One thing that I noticed over the course of my journey is that when I put myself on maintenance for a little while (like while I'm on vacation, or home, or have visitors, and it is impossible to eat normally/log everything), once I go back to the 1200 calories a day, I tend to lose more rapidly than I was losing before.
Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like the support of someone who knows the struggles of what you are going through. :flowerforyou:
And I have to say- even though I'm not in the "normal" BMI range yet, I've noticed a huge difference in my PCOS symptoms since I went off the pill in December. That might have been a contributing factor to the struggles that I'm having losing now, but I have normal cycles for the first time in my life!!0 -
