Hi all,
On March 20th, I decided that I was completely sick of constantly thinking about my weight and never actually doing anything serious about it. I eat pretty healthy most of the time, but even thinking about 'dieting' makes my brain crazy and I start craving everything bad and eating terribly. I have started so many exercise routines over the years it's not even funny. I can't run, or do the treadmill without getting terrible shin splints (it's a knee and leg problem, and trust me, nothing was helping) I'd go about 4-6 weeks pretty good and see absolutely no results and quit.
this went on for years. It took me 18 years to put this weight on, and I know it's not going to just come off over night.
Well, I took up bicycling for real, and have been riding my bike and/or walking the dogs for at least an hour 6X a week. Going to the gym on days the weather doesn't cooperate. Giving myself one day of rest a week. I did this from March 20 on and scheduled a doctors appt to get my blood tested and advice and make sure there wasn't something going on that kept me from losing weight. My metabolism was clearly in shut-down mode! My doctor put me on Phentermine on April 4. I have continued to work out, and eat as healthily as I can. I joined MFP on April 10. I'm doing good counting calories and loving being able to track my exercises. I'm learning all sorts of things on the message boards.
I've lost 14 pounds according to the doctors office. I just had an appt this morning. For once, my efforts are paying off, and I couldn't be happier.
My scale is 7 pounds off (in my favor! lol) According to it, I started out at 186 and I'm now 173.5. At the doctors office, and at the gym (they have the same scale) I started at 195 and I'm now 181.
I'm wondering if I should change my scale to reflect that 7 pounds and change my starting and current weight on here? Mentally, I am completely excited that I am so close to getting into the 160's, but now that I know that my scale is off so much, i can't help but realize that every time I step on it!
Or maybe I should go buy a new scale, one that reflects it more accurately? I hate to spend the money, it seems to me that this one works fine other than being off by 7 pounds. Strangely, it's not off by that much with my kids, who are 9 and 11.
I know the 'numbers' don't mean anything necessarily, but you know how we gals can get! ~

Cogratulations Windi! You are doing so great. I swear that losing weight is more than half mental. We have to be in the right frame of mind to find the inspiration to be successful. You have that attitude that nothing is going to stop you from achieving your goal weight! If I were you I would go buy a new scale. I think 7lbs is much too big of a gap. I want to switch to a digital scale but right now I have a doctor scale (the spring and bar scale) and it matches my doctors scale to the pound so until I reach my goal I think I will just continue with it.0

Grats on the weight loss so far! How exciting for you. Maybe you could get your scale calibrated instead of buying a new one. It would probably be inexpensive. Just a thought. Best wishes to you!0
