so about 2 weeks ago my grandpa had a dizzy spell and he fell backwards down a flight of steps. he broke his shoulder and basically scraped all of the skin off of his back. about 2 days later he fell again in the kitchen spraining his wrist. he had finally recovered. then yesterday we get a phone call that my grandpa was outside on a ladder power washing the house (my grandpa was always the type of person who liked to do work and would never accept that he is getting old and cant do the things he used to be able to do. but still, after his recent injuries why would he be power washing the house!? anywayy...) he ended up falling off the ladder and breaking his hip. he has to get surgery today. im just really worried about him because he is getting old and an injury like this is going to change him forever. he is never going to be able to do anything that he enjoys anymore. and im afraid he is going to just get depressed. my grandpa has always been such an amazing person. always with a smile on his face and never thinking about himself. his family was always his number one concern. im scared for him. please say a prayer that he has a safe recovery. thanks for listening!

Is your Grandpa my Dad!? He sounds just like my stubborn Irish father! Never wants to believe he can't do something or for that matter shouldn't do something!
Prayers going your way 'cause I know what it's like to have man like that in your life!
Stubborn and proud! He'll do fine! Just make sure he doesn't get out of bed to fix something in his hospital room!

Just said a pray for him and also for you. My Grandpa has been gone for a long time but has a special place in my heart even today. Praying the surgery goes well and that he will be back up and around very soon!

He and your family is on my prayer list. PUSH THE PHYSICAL THERAPY, it will make all the difference right now. My question is why is he falling? Check with the hospital where he is staying and see what part physical therapy plays in their "falls program". There are a number of things that cause someone to be at risk for fall and many of them can be improved with a structured rehabilitation program.

thank you so much for all of the prayers.

i just got back from the hospital. he is in so much pain and it was hard to watch. they are giving him morphine but only when he asks for it and like i said he is a very stubborn man and just keeps saying that he can tolerate the pain :ohwell: he was supposed to get surgery this morning but they keep postponing it because his ekg came back irregular so they are worried about his heart. they think that the irregularity in his heartbeat might be causing a lack of blood flow to his brain which may be causing him to get dizzy and fall but my grandpa insists that he only got dizzy the one time when he fell. i think he may not be telling the truth though because with all of his falls there wasnt really anything that caused it he just keeps saying that he just fell :ohwell: so i dont know. but now because of his heart he will probably have to wait till tomorrow for surgery :frown: through it all though he just keeps making jokes. somehow he is managing to stay pretty positive.
