Ok so I started with alot of oooomph doing the gym & healthy eating. I went every day for 60 mins per day average mainly doing cardio workouts and after nearly 3 weeks and a 9lb loss I injured my knee.

After seeing the GP he said I had a medial collateral ligament tear and rest, ice, elevation would do the trick. I wore a support bandage which helped and I was hopping round for a week before I did myself the same injury on the other knee also!!

I then wore a support on each knee, rested up, elevated and iced as I literally could not get up, walk up the stairs or move without my leg swelling & being in pain. I took various painkillers and I usually have a high pain threshold.

Ok so it is now 2 weeks on, today being the first day of no pain killers and feeling much more normal, no pain, more flexible and I can now bend my knees and squat down a little without support which I couldnt yesterday and I can walk without any pain.

My question is when should I resume gym and how do I break it in easy? Can anyone help?

That would not e something I would ask people on this website. That is something that I would check with your doctor about because you don't want to hurt it again because someone on this site said it was okay to start back at the gym.

This is definitely a question for your surgeon.

Speak with your doctor. He can tell you better than any of us, because we don't understand the severity of your injury.

Definately not something you want to rush back into.
You can weight train and work your upper-body while your knee heals.

You need to talk to your doctor.... this site is great for support and advice in some areas, but medical advice should always come from a professional!

And when you talk to him ask him if he can recommend any exercises for strengthening the knee. Better yet, see if you're eligible for a couple physical therapy appointments. They can really help figuring out the best way to recover the knee.

When the doctor says it's okay, most of us on here are NOT doctors, how can we advise on this?
