Hi.... Sooooo motivated by the stories on here! In the last 2 years I've put on 20 lbs. I really believe my problem is "starvation mode". However, I'm confused...my BMR is 1383. According to websites that is the bare minimum of calories I should eat for proper body functioning. However, MFP has my goal calorie intake at 1200? I'm 46 female 5'4 148lbs and have taught 45 minute interval classes 3x/week for the past year. Tired of tight jeans! Need advice ASAP!

Go to your Goals page. On that page, MFP explains how it determined your daily calorie goal. In essence, MFP calculates your BMR, then adds calories for your normal workday activity to get your total calorie burn per day. It then subtracts enough calories for you to lose weight. On days that you also exercise, MFP adds your BMR + Activity Level calories + Exercise calories and then subtracts enough calories to lose weight. MFP aims to keep you at a consistent calorie deficit, whether you exercise or not.
What did you choose for your weight loss per week? If you have 20 pounds to lose, you probably should have chosen .5 pounds per week, and certainly no more than 1 lb per week.0 -
I am wondering if you put in your correct activity level. It does specifically say if you are an instructor (teaching classes) You should be setting your calories to active.
The other thing is when you do that you don't count those calories as exercise calories, because those come from work. Your body does become accustom to the exercises and they lose their impact. You may need to do some different routines for yourself.
Your body treats those classes you teach like a mailman's body treats walking. It's something that your body could do witl little or no effort.
The other setting you want to check it to make sure you don't have a goal set ot lose like 2lbs a week or something. You want to be more like .5 to 1lb a week.0
