Okay everyone, I need your support! I am really going to try and DO THIS now! I logged my meals yesterday and I did a real workout yesterday for the first time in weeks. I really need to lose weight for health reasons, plus I am going to be a bridesmaid in 2 weddings next year.

As some of you know, I do write an online food blog and am frequently dining out and going to food events and cooking elaborate things. However, I know I can use this to my advantage by making healthy things, and learning how to indulge on a diet budget.

My BIGGEST obstacle to losing weight is actually my self esteem and my feelings! I really struggle with how I feel about myself and this starts a vicious cycle of self hatred/overeating. I am also really overwhelmed by others who tell me I need to lose weight or are competing to lose weight for their weddings - that doesn't work for me.

So I guess I am just going to try this as best I can! Would love advice and emotional support from those who've been there and those are are on the journey with me!

I just love this forum and wish everyone the best of luck! XOXO

Diana

I understand the wanting to over do it when you get frustrated. It always seemed like every time I tried to diet in my life I would get worse. Then I cam to this website by my doctor's recommendation. This place has changed me in my whole attitude. My doctor put it this way........make it your job...just like you get up every day, go to work , do your job to the best of your ability, and then you go home. Structured day. It is your job to help your body stay healthy. The accountability here and the many wonderful people has helped me tremendously and I've only been here about 2 weeks.
    You CAN do this!

    Hi Welcome aboard.

You can do it. Just take baby steps. Set realistic conservative expectations. I have never been motivated by the numbers on the scale. For some reason this time I decided to set other goals. The number of times I work out each week. The intensity, or improving from the last time. It is working. I have never lost 29lbs before. ever.

Look for something different. Set up a goal you can work on that doesn't involve the scale. That will help you build your self esteem. I have been doing things I never ever would have done last year at this time.

Best wishes. You can add me as a freind if you like.

I totally know where you are coming from. I have tried for years to lose weight for all kind of reasons. And failed horribly. Until I realized I have to do it for me and that I'm worth it. I could not do it. Don't get me wrong, I still struggle some days. But I know I can do this. And so can you. I have faith in you to do this. You may add me as a friend if you would like my help.

    Hello Diana,
Welcome to the greatest support network yet. Just stick with your own desire to be healthy and go from there. As you start to see results it will be your strongest motivator. I have always battled with self esteem issues and I have to tell you that I am emotionally a very different person today. I have reached goals for myself that I never thought I could. (example....I never ran a mile in my life, and I am 47 years old. Last year I decided to get up on Mothers day and try. With some major coaching from my wonderful husband I ran two.) This year as Mothers day rolls around I can run a 5 k! I simply stopped telling myself that I couldn't do it.....As you take control you will learn so much self strength, and most importantly self love. It will make the pounds come off easier.....Good luck on this journey and feel free to friend me!:flowerforyou:

I hear ya, it can be such a struggle. My boyfriend and I go out a LOT on the weekends and this has been the biggest struggle for me! Especially when it comes to calories in alcohol! This is a great site for emotional support and motivation :)

    Hey,

Right the first thing to say is that anyone telling anyone that they need to lose weight who is not a doctor needs a reality check, where do people like this get off.So they can be dismissed and consigned to the ignorant bin.Sorry had to get that out of the way.
Now as you sort of point out,we can be our own fiercest of critics. Its time to start being kinder to yourself and that can start by virtue of the fact that you are here and are taking positive steps to address the issues that are bothering you.So lets have no more of the self hating. You have been so honest and that is a great achievement and is to be applauded.
I bet that logging that food yesterday, coupled with the workout made you feel so good about yourself yesterday and so you should too.
You will get any help and support that you may require on this site, there really wont be a problem or situation that someone hasnt faced and come out the other side a winner. This isnt a competition but is for keeps and you can do this for sure.
You should get a good network of support around you, this will help to keep you motivated daily, you will be able to check folks diaries, these will inspire you and you will rediscover foods that you loved and had forgotten about and also discover new tips to help you long the way.
Why not join one of the sites challenges to give you some short term focus,it doest have to be unrealistic, maybe some walking on a daily basis..we all have to start at a reasonable and sustainable pace while we get our routines started.
So,please stick with it and enjoy yourself while doing it.By all means add me if you like,I am on here daily and would be more than happy to support you.
Good Luck and best wishes going foward....
  • You can totally do this. Just find a way to make it doable. Im a mother of two boys that are in gymnastics, wrestling, soccer..etc. Im also employed full time and married to a man who works 60- 80 hours a week.
At first id say..theres no time..no time. Then Id say..my gym clothes dont fit..Then Id be too tired.
BUT in March I decided that my muffin top was redic. SO I packed a gym bag and off I went. My biggest help is to keep my gym bag packed and in my car so this way theres no excuse not to go. Oh & I also joined a gym that I loved.
Scale wise..Im about a pound or two down but clothing wise..my clothes fit much better. My bras not suffocating me and my underwears no longer cutting of my blood supply lol.
You can do it girlfriend! :)
    You'll feel so much better!
