new again and don't understand the calories

I've use MFP to count calories before and I'm back at it again. One thing I don't understand after reading a little on the forums is that the BMR calculator on here says my BMR calories is 1,511. But MFP has my daily # of calories set at 1,410. Why would it set them at less than the bare minimum my body needs just to function?
Hopefully some experienced user out there can help me with that
Oh, also I am nursing a 6 month old baby, so I did a quick search online and the best I could figure was that I need to eat another 500 calories a day to support that. Anybody have any insight on the # of calories you need to eat to maintain your milk supply but still lose weight?

you can actually look up on the food database or maybe the exercise one any way type in breastfeeding and it will give you different choices. Good luck.0

I eat at my bmr... its still 300 calories below my maintainence calories... so I figure I am good!0

I used to just eat my normal days allotment while I was nursing and let that be my diet. It's the balance of your diet that is important during nursing -- don't want to rob the baby!0
