So over the past 4 years, I can't eat raw bananas or avacados becaue I will get stomach cramps and/or throw up. Has anyone else had issues that arose with their eating like this after a pregnancy?

I haven't had any pregnancy related issues with bananas (never had kids) but I was trying to eat them before a workout and they gave me a bad stomach ache. I've stopped eating them all together. Don't know what it is, but it's a bummer since they're good for you. I'm fine with avocado tho. Maybe you just have a food sensitivity to those?

You might have developed a food intolerance to bananas. Same thing w/ my hubby. He didn't used to be allergic, but is now allergic to bananas and apples. Crazy!!! He gets the same way w/ bananas that you described... they just tear up his stomach. And apples give him awful hives!

Both are potassium rich...are their other potassium rich foods you can't stomach?

Are you taking multi-vitamins? Often vitamins contain excess things like potassium. That can make you very sensitive to potassium-rich foods. Don't quote me on that, because I don't know what the exact sort of reaction would be, but it's worth looking in to.

Did anyone else read the title of this thread and immediately break into the tune "Apples and Banana's" from Barney???

Could be just me...... :embarassed: :embarassed:

I take additional potassium pills prescribed by my doctor and I eat all bananas, apples and avocados and don't have any reactions. I wash my apples thoroughly b4 eating them because of the pesticides and I cannot always afford to buy organic. Bananas and avocados have thick skin so I wouldn't worry about the pesticides. Not sure what could be the problem unless your digestion has changed.

I would see an allergist! I have good friend who is allergic to avocados, it happened to him suddenly as well.

Thank you! I do not take a multi-vitamin, though I've been told to. Just really strange! I litteraly had one bite of an avacado dip last night and was soooo sick.

it's not unusual for allergies and food intolerance to develop or worsen after children. my sister's always been allergic to stuff like bananas and avocados - in the past she would take a benadryl if she wanted those things or ate them accidentally. but after her second kid, she ended up in the emergency room after sharing a spoon with her son (who had just eaten a banana).

i used to be allergic to certain perfumes and dyes, but i thought i'd outgrown it - not so. after i had my kid i went to visit my mom for a couple weeks and washed my clothes at her house. by the time i figured out that i was reacting to her detergent i had a rash all over Everything. i had to go out and buy a detergent i wasn't allergic to and re-wash all of my clothes. i've also discovered that certain scented body lotions cause reactions now, too.

this is definitely something you wanna mention the next time you see your doctor. you can probably get a full allergy test so you can have a list of things to avoid. i had one done for my son already, just because there's such a huge family history of allergy-related problems. but it's really something that should be done every 10 years or so for someone who exhibits those types of symptoms (just my opinion).
