Hello! I'm new here. I'm struggaling to loose weight. I am 21 years old and currently attending med school. It is tough to get exercise and eat out when i spend a all my time in the books. I know being in the health field i should be taking care of myself but i find it hard to do. I'm hoping this will help me keep better track of the things i do and eat. I know half of it is mind over matter but thats the hardest part. just looking for people who feel the same way!

    HI Stephanie,
I completely understand where you're coming from. I know how hard it is to eat healthy and to exercise while trying to go to school and study. I'm attending pharmacy school and since starting (last June), I've gained 8 lbs. Before starting, I used to cook dinner every night, and for the most part, it was a well balanced meal. But now, I find it so hard to take the time to cook a meal. It is so much easier to pick up something on the way home...usually it was Chick-fil-A, Little Caesar's Hot-N-Ready, or Zaxby's. Now, I've been cooking every night again. Since starting My Fitness Pal, I find it motivating to keep track of what I'm eating and the calories I'm burning when I excercise. I know it is hard to excercise, but if you think about it, it's really not as time consuming as one would think. I usually only excercise 4 days out of the week for 30 minutes. I excercise for those 30 minutes when I need a break from studying (it's not good to study for hours at a time). After excercising, I take a shower, and I feel really energized and alert and I'm ready to tackle the books again.
Once you get started with MFP, it will motivate you to track what you're eating and your exercise. I find it really motivating at the end of the day when I complete my entries, it will tell me, "You'll weigh xxxlbs in 5 weeks". I think about that and what I will look like at that weight and I love it.
I hope this will help you get started. Don't get discouraged, if eat over your calorie goal or eat something you shouldn't, don't give up. Just jump back on the wagon the next day. And don't torture yourself by depriving yourself of goodies. It's ok to eat a dessert. I ate icecream a couple of times since joining and I've lost 4 lbs so far (I've really only been doing this for 3 weeks).
Just keep up with the food logs and excercise and you'll see results soon. Don't give up.
    I hope this helps.
