Some call me obsessive about what I eat.....I call it being Conscientious!!! I have learned the hard way that by not being on top of it every day it is too easy to forget my limits and then start to gain.....
I was asked will I always be like this....always worrying about what I eat and tracking my food....the answer was simply YES....to not be would be disasterous!
I am always teased at work when we have "food days" where we bring in all kinds of food for our department....I usually don't eat most of it...but...that is my choice. I am not missing out, I am caring about my body. I live everyday (almost) with the Atkins way of life, it works for me. I don't preach, and I don't push, so please don't act like my eating habits are the end of the world.....
Nothing makes me madder than someone who knows how I eat to offer me cookies, pizza and other crap.....then look at me like I have 3 heads when I say no, I don't eat that stuff....It's my choice, I live it...so get OVER IT!!!
Now I admit, there are days where I throw caution to the wind and just don't care but not often and I get right back in line. Do I eat badly, yes, sometimes, then I just have to be good...
Hubby says, I am super proud of your dedication, it just sucks that it is so all consuming. While I agree, I also know what would happen if it were not front in my mind....I will NOT be that girl again....
Just my soap box for the day.....it's not OBSESSIVE, IT'S BEING Conscientious!!!!

I agree! Some people say, are you on THAT website again (being MFP). I say, yes, it is where I can find other "conciencious" people like myself. My coworkers, friends, and family don't want to hear about my diet and exercise, but my friends on here do. It feels sooo good to have this support! I like the way you think! :happy:0

Love it. It's tough at those work events. We went out on sort of a field trip this week and lunch was at Golden Coral. I got the stink eye from other females for getting small portions of only a couple things, only getting one plate of food, and only one dessert. You know, I'm just so used to eating small portions throughout the day I can't EAT huge meals. I get full so fast!
They just had to make their comments. And one girl kept trying to justify her big pile of food to me, like I care. I don't care what they eat, you know? Why should they be looking at my plate? Food is such an issue with some people. With women especially. Same thing with clothes. We were allowed to wear civilian clothes that day and god help you if you wore a pair of heels because the other females were just tearing eachother down behind eachother's backs.
Okay, so in order to not get talked about I have to wear unnattractive clothes and pile a bunch of greasy food on my plate. Right. That's why I don't like eating in public. Because people are too weird for me.0 -
Well I'm here everyday and I track everything that I eat I also plan my meals, sometimes days ahead of time. I imagine that in some people's eyes that can be obsessive.
However, I know why I have the extra weight and I'm doing what I have to do to specifically mitigate those bad habits/weaknesses. people that don't have those weaknesses probably see my habits as "over the top", but all I can say is that they are blessed not to have my short comings.
That all being said, I do my best not to make my 'way' intrusive on the people around me if I can. I make about 90% of the meals that I eat so I turn down invitations for lunch a lot. I never "preach" at people about their diets ect. But I also cut myself some slack when I do want to splurge every now and then and when I do I eat with gusto.0 -
I think we all go through this. For me it was an eye opening experience logging every bite of food that goes into my mouth and being conscious of how much fat, carbs and calories are in everything. I can see why some people think it is obsessive but if they started a life change process it would consume them as well.
My sister and I discuss this because her husband is very annoyed with her announcements on how much fat is in something or that she can't eat something. It is amazing having this outlet so easily at our fingertips. We can come online and find people in the same situations as us, eating the same calories, talking about hungry days and blah days and full of motivation days. It doesn't seem obsessive when you see a world of people feeling the same way as yourself about food intake... but to the outside world its another story. Let em eat cake!
Good post... I needed to hear that others are dealing with "obsessive" comments.0 -
Its comforting to me as well to see I'm not the only "crazy one"!!! We can stick together ladies!!!
Just remember, we come first! It's our bodies! As long as we are healthy then it's not a bad thing to be obsessive!!!!0 -
I don't think it becomes an "obsession" until it is the ONLY thing you do/think about. If your whole life revolves around what you will eat and when, then it is the same obsession as a person who obsesses about food in an unhealthy way. I think that what happens a lot is people tend to swing from one extreme to the other. It's kind of like a drug addict who switches from cocaine to alcohol, and the attitude is "well at least alcohol is legal, I COULD still be using cocaine" it is still an unhealthy obsession. Addiction to food, exercise, drugs, dieting... it's all unhealthy. If you think that you have struck a balance in your life then screw the nay-sayers. The important thing is to be healthy - inside AND out0
