RELAY for life- how it works

I found out there is a relay for life in june and I really wanna walk in honor of my YAYA...but Idont know how it works...so can someone please explain it...I know it goes for 24 hrs... i know you are a team right? so do you join a team? do you make a team? how manypeopple do you need? how long do you walk for? can you have head phones? etc? anyone can tell me please..thanks!
I dont want a website please I just want people who have done it before to tell me how it goes thanks :)
