Protein and Sugar Numbers

I understand the numbers that are stored in the food diary as recommended amounts are established based on the information you enter about yourself. But, does anybody know about the protein number.......what if you go over a bit during the day is that bad?
Obviously we don't want to go over the sugar number.........but I'm having a hard time finding foods that I can eat that are low in sugar but can give me the calories and carbs I need. I'm realizing just how much sugar is in even natural foods like fruits and veggies.....I love them but they eat up my sugar allowance. Any ideas on foods that work?
Thanks for your help!!!
